As stated finding a therapist that you feel you can reveal your thoughts to and be ok with it is vital. Ive been thru many in many states, not sex therapists but therapists in general, and only in the last year found one that really works for me. Getting the most out of therapy has a lot to do with your learning style...I have to see it to process it so we often put things on paper so I can take it home and process it. Understanding Amggdala/Reptialian Brain was huge for me because it brought me right to Systematic Desensitization. All this brought me to a better awareness of myself, my sexual responses, and my Domme ways. We do not sit up and talk about sex for an hour, we speak of life as a whole and our actions and reactions to things and naturally sex is included in that process. I am huge on people getting help for issues they cant find solutions to on their own...but sex therapists do something different I believe.

The idea of going to a therapist is not to change who we are per se, but rather to become comfortable with ourselves and get rid of the things that don't work and enhance those that do work. Others are right, therapy is a personal relationship, and if a therapist doesn't seem to work, find another one. We started in therapy as a couple over sexual issues around bd/sm, and it ended up that was the least of our stuff. The only people who claim to 'remove' things like being sub or kinky are religious 'therapists' who are nothing but a bunch of frauds and charlatans, that isn't therapy, that is repression.

The reason I ask this is because...from my first post, about being married vanilla but with strong intense submissive desires, I realize that I am also sexually masochistic. Which seems like an even harder subject to broach. Has anyone sought out a sex therapist to rid themselves of such desires? If so, does it work?

"Honey, I was reading 50 Shades of Grey, and I think I'd like to try something. How about you beat my ass until I can barely stand it, and then I give you the best blowjob of your life while my hands are tied behind my back. What do you think?"

I love you like mad.

sunny... What about this stud MAN in the D??? What am I chopped liver?
