Now tell me again how banning guns will stop gun crime? I mean criminals obey the laws right?

Please tell these people about how banning guns will make the streets safer, guns are banned in Chicago so it should be the safest city in the US.

A late night basketball game, then 'boom, boom, boom, boom, boom'

Semecha Nunn tried hard to talk about her 3-year-old grandson, one of 13 people shot as neighbors played basketball in Cornell Square Park in the Back of the Yards Thursday night.

"They need to stop, they need to stop," Nunn said, the last word coming out as almost a shriek as she closed her eyes and collapsed crying.

Witnesses told police a gray sedan pulled up to the park around 10:15 p.m. and two men started firing in the 1800 block of West 51st Street. The victims ranged from 3 to 41 and included a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl. Three of them, including the boy, were in serious to critical condition.

Very sad. Heart goes out to the victims' families.

You're absolutely right, a gun ban will not stop gun crime.

An enforced and policed gun ban, certainly would - Because there would be no guns. That one's not very complicated.

The complication is that if a proposed ban cannot be enforced, then it's a pointless exercise.

Nosathro -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 7:58:16 AM)

Guns are restricted in Chicago but not banned. Most guns are purchased legally by "Gun Guys" And yes you can purchase a gun in Chicago but most of the gun come from out of State like Virginia and Texas.

Let's say for a minute that you are right and the best thing to do is get rid of all guns. So Obama wakes up tomorrow and declares "all guns are now illegal". Ok, now what? You can get the law abiding citizens to turn in their weapons but how are you going to get the criminals and mental nuts to turn in theirs? Because those are the ones who are going to go out and kill people. They are the ones who are the problem.

If you are going to try to get me to change my stance on guns, you are going to have to show me a plan that might work. Until then I am not going to be happy with only bad people and LEO being armed.

Hmm, yeah, makes sense. DC's much the same. Guns used to be illegal are still quite restricted... but there are plenty, because people buy car loads full down south where it's very easy to get them and then smuggle them into DC and sell them on the black market.

No jurisdiction in the continental US can have effective gun control if it's so easy to just drive to another city or state and buy whatever you want and stick it in your trunk.

kdsub -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 9:50:59 AM)

I think it is wrong to take a small area as an example and say it will be a representation of the whole. Would it not be better to take examples from countries that have strict gun control laws?

If you do that you will see that limiting gun ownership or strict laws governing their use do make a huge difference in gun crime. There is no way around these facts.

It all comes down between our personal guaranteed right to bear arms and freedom... against the deaths of thousands of innocent children by gun accidents. Which in America is more important?

The killing in our inner cities will go on with or without guns but it will be harder to do anyway.

Because criminals are nice people if you take away the guns.
And it would only mean living in a police state.

So why isn't crime sky hi in places like Virginia?

Phydeaux -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 11:17:20 AM)

Gun ownership up..

Deaths by guns down.

So the number of guns have *no* real bearing on the number of deaths.

First, he said it would put an end to crime.
Second, ask Tony Blair's daughter about how safe the streets of London are.
Been a long time since we had a beheading in the middle of a busy street in the U S.

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 11:34:17 AM)

These arguments all trip over the notion that one can simply wave the ol' magic wand and make all guns disappear - that uniquely American 'wish fulfillment' neurosis. There is no simple answer to banning firearms. It will take time and effort (and likely a civil war) to cure this insanity, but we have to start somewhere. It's clear we can't go on like this and maintain any sort of sane society.

kdsub -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 11:45:53 AM)

I'll trade ya one beheading for a few dozen children without bullet holes...safe movie theaters without massacres... political rallies without head shots...and maybe a few postal workers and navy workers without shotgun and ar15 mortal wounds.

What ya say

oh oh don't forget I'll also trade you some schools were kids are not dodging bullets .

Butch

eulero83 -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 12:05:52 PM)

FR

this is just boring demagoguery, in no western country guns are banned, but trading is well regulated in most of them, and gun crime is lower than the usa, so the question is how supporting a consumistic weapon's trading regulation will not increase gun crime? How selling to private individuals can not increase the ammount of guns in the wrong hands? it's not the second emendament that transformed bamad neighbourhood in a drug's bazaar it's the lobbying system.

Such incidents stopped by unarmed civilians have a fourth as many fatalities as those stooped by the police.
Those stopped by armed civilians have a sixth as many.

My reply was clearly regards your comment on a police state, you even fucking quoted me. Why am I not suprised you cant do any better than mention a very rare terrorist attack, and even rarer beheading, in London ?

kdsub -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 12:18:32 PM)

I believe you are dodging the point my friend...While you are talking about armed civilians stopping gun crime I am talking about no guns no crime of that sort. You tried to point to a beheading as proof that guns in civilians hands stopped that type of crime in America...And I was pointing out that the free arming of civilians was the source of crime that is not prevalent in the UK and was showing a valid comparison.

jlf1961 -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 12:25:00 PM)

Alright you pass laws to ban guns....

And the criminal element in this country that likes to use guns are just going to walk in and turn their guns in and swear an oath never to use another gun in the commission of a crime....

All because criminals obey the law....

And all gun related crime will disappear.

I dont know if you people are delusional, naive, or have done too many drugs, but obviously you live in a fantasy world.

Yet gun related crime is still fairly low in Europe, something you happily sidestep.
