And how do they know where these guns will be.

because as and when police come across them, they get confiscated. Gun amnesties also work.

No guns start as illegal, so it is proper control keeps it that way for the most part. The main increase in gun crime started when our troops started coming home from Bosnia and Iraq the first time around. Last year gun crime in London was down 20%, so something is working.

Now tell me again how banning guns will stop gun crime? I mean criminals obey the laws right?

Please tell these people about how banning guns will make the streets safer, guns are banned in Chicago so it should be the safest city in the US.

quote:

A late night basketball game, then 'boom, boom, boom, boom, boom'

Semecha Nunn tried hard to talk about her 3-year-old grandson, one of 13 people shot as neighbors played basketball in Cornell Square Park in the Back of the Yards Thursday night.

"They need to stop, they need to stop," Nunn said, the last word coming out as almost a shriek as she closed her eyes and collapsed crying.

Witnesses told police a gray sedan pulled up to the park around 10:15 p.m. and two men started firing in the 1800 block of West 51st Street. The victims ranged from 3 to 41 and included a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl. Three of them, including the boy, were in serious to critical condition.

Jlf: Banning guns will stop crimes because gun free zones create places where guns aren't allowed.

I've seen the signs....they have guns pictured on them with X's and red circles.

That stops crime because people with guns see those signs and say "Fuuuuuck......can't have a gun here....WTF was I THINKING????"

And that is a known fact.

Gun free zones with signs (that clearly state "NO FUCKING GUNS ALLOWED HERE!!!!") stop crimes.

Fact.

jlf1961 -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 5:44:51 PM)

Let me explain why American gun owners have a hard time with citizens of the UK telling us what to do about guns.

Some years ago, on the 19th day of April, 700 guys in red coats marched out of Boston with orders to destroy the weapons belonging to the Massachusetts militia at Concord. Now the powers that be had in the past asked the militia to help them deal with bad people, like the French.

But around that time, the powers that be had been passing taxes only meant for the citizens of a land known collectively as the colonies.

Well, make a long story short, this group of militia who had helped the guys in the red coats in the past decided that they were not going to give up their weapons and kicked the shit out of the red coats all the way back to Boston.

Now granted we needed some help from the french, but eventually, this red coat wearing pompous ass got his shit handed to him in a town called Yorktown. He was so embarrassed at losing that he sent a subordinate to hand over his sword while he pouted in his headquarters.

Ever since then, when brits start telling us what to do, we have tendency to get a bit pissed.

Now we have brits telling us if we properly regulated guns, the bad men who commit crimes with guns will eventually not have any guns. I agree there need to be some changes. Actually it would help tremendously if the current laws were enforced uniformly. But for the rest of the British system, nope.

Politesub53 -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 5:47:52 PM)

You got more than some help from the French but I digress.

I have never said Americans shouldnt have guns, I have said more guns isnt the answer and sales of the ones you have should be controlled better.

LookieNoNookie -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 5:53:33 PM)

Gun signs stop crimes.

Known fact.

These arguments all trip over the notion that one can simply wave the ol' magic wand and make all guns disappear - that uniquely American 'wish fulfillment' neurosis. There is no simple answer to banning firearms. It will take time and effort (and likely a civil war) to cure this insanity, but we have to start somewhere. It's clear we can't go on like this and maintain any sort of sane society.

They could start with enforcing existing laws. Then they could look at regulations that make sense.

Maybe they could even try to get help for the ones who are warped enough to do it in the first place. But that would take the focus off guns and no one wants that.

edited to add: they could also stop making the shooter into a news celebrity.

Thank you Eulero.

JLF, gun homicides per 100,000 in the US are 2.97 % In the UK its only 0.7 % Do you want me to do the maths ?

Again the U S murder rate with clubs exceeds the total Japanese murder rate.

Maybe we should just admit we are a bit on the murderous side. Maybe it's the large population or the freedoms but that would be another thread. We have a mix of all sorts of people and if someone could push a button tomorrow that would take away guns from everyone who shouldn't have one, people would still kill each other. They would just switch to other ways.

And the stats prove that country-wide gun controls work.
Anything less, is again, laughable.

Not nearly as laughable as your post.
BTW is laughable British for I disagree, that seems to be the way Brits use it.

No disagree is still disagree, while laughable means so ludicrous to be amusing.

When I say fucking laughable, thats contempt, pure and simple.

Hope that helps.

Yep your position is laughable

And you have a generation unable to defend themselves against bad guys with guns.
You remember the IRA armed themselves by taking guns off of British soldiers with knives in their backs (early 20th century)
This too is laughable

Sighs.......thats not what I am telling you, I am telling you gun control works. Not more guns but less guns.

Bama remarked on Blairs daughter possibly being threatened with a real gun, It is more likely to have been an immitation but still.

The robbers ran off as some of Ms Blairs UNARMED friends appeared on the scene. Do you see where I am heading with this ?

Actually, no.

I knew I would need to point it out to someone. Ms Blairs friends didnt have guns, yet the robbers still fled, so the crime was indeed stopped without more guns on the street.

None of the crimes I stopped because I had a gun resulted in injuries.
So your point is, once again, laughable

TheHeretic -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 7:43:37 PM)

General Reply after wading the first page:

Let's make this whole question of whether or not guns should be legal for possesion by the general public in these United States of America as simple as possible.

The process to do that is by Constitutional Amendment. It ain't going to happen.

I say rip the heart out of the drug trade that fuels these gangs, and see what that does to inner city violence like this (though we should expect a temporary spike in other crimes, as the miserable shits try to find some new way to feed their habits and lifestyle).

Makes sense, prepare to be ripped.

They may stop guns falling out of pockets in church and shooting a fellow parishioner.

And yet last year an attempted mass shooting at a church in Colorado was stopped by a church member with a gun.

kdsub -> RE: Now tell me again.... (9/20/2013 8:02:48 PM)

That would not have happened in the first place if neither had a gun...and most assuredly if the perpetrator was vetted by a strong gun control law...Would you not say he or she was crazy?

Say how many shootings in churches and schools and malls have there been in the last 5 years in the UK?

Butch

I am all for better inclusion of mental health information in the background check.
Several states refuse to over privacy concerns but this should not be allowed.
This would not have any effect on the millions of legitimate gun owners while putting and end to most if not all of these shootings.

So we should take her gun away in the hopes of getting his?

I had never heard that but I am sure the IRA doesn't really need guns to kill, do they?
