I'd say it's probably BS. Unless someone has real access to the site, I don't think it would be possible to get your IP.

Yeah no. It is a scam to get money. Don't fall for it. Sure, they could possibly even maybe have your IP address, but what does that mean? They going to hack you? I mean, I doubt like hell that a hacker would tell you they had your IP address. Besides, your IP address only identifies you on the Internet, to doesn't give away personal information about you. Make sure your computer is clean of any malware or any trojans, and run your virus scanner.

Report them to support.

2 other things, if you have exchanged personal emails from your personal email address, then yes, they can have your IP address, but you could also easily get theirs: just option to view full headers on anything they have sent you.

They can't do anything with the info.

If they maintain they got it from here... then they are bluffing.

In either case, yes, it is a scam and please report them.

there are shared ip's, there are ways to change your ip, there are ways to block your ip, but this person shouldn't have been able to get it through this site. report the person to admin.

1) An ip address can only identify the rough geographic location of a particular computer. They are assigned, usually temporarily for normal users, by the ISP.
2) There is no way to get a person's ip address if you communicate only through this site's email. For normal email if you don't want someone to be able to track you down even as roughly as an ip address does just get a web mail like Yahoo.
3) I cannot see how having an ip address could be used to ruin someone's life. If someone has yours it is relatively simple to change it if their was some problem.

OP,go to the very bottom of the site's home page and click on the support button. Be advised it might take a day or two for support to handle it...given that they are all volunteers.

Wish I'd known that before I gave them money. I had a friend who was a hacker when I was younger who made it seem like you could do pretty much anything with the smallest amount of info so I was ....freaked out.
