There are some things that if not moderated could open the site to litigation so no I don't want TOS changed. I just would like to see the report feature removed from the post box and made public in a thread just for posting TOS complaints of a particular type. Let the moderators do their work according to TOS in the threads and get individuals out of it.

I would limit the reports by individuals strictly to threats, and child porn...none other. That way the report feature could not be abused.

The experiment of low moderation awhile back worked just fine

On the surface, it worked fine. We still received numerous reports. In fact, more than we would usually get in a thread. Some people made numerous reports even after being told that we would not be moderating unless it was for items that were illegal. Ironically, some of people that posted multiple tickets were some of the people that complain the loudest about being over moderated.

So, the end result was that it only slightly decreased amount of work for us.

We are willing to have another unmoderated thread, if we get enough interest.

kdsub -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 10:10:40 AM)

The reports are only a problem if they are accepted... It would be easy to set up a report feature with a drop down box for the type of complaint accepted. All others would not and that would limit over reporting.

Exactly what I brought up in an earlier post on this thread.[8D]

mnottertail -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 10:20:39 AM)

Unfortunately, the mods do not research those tickets and when the whiner spams them with the tickets, it falls on the (not so) offender, instead of who it should fall on, the spammer.

Because they don't even read the post above it or what it is in reply to.

I disagree with this. They have to check every report and when you have some people who send a score or more at a time, sometimes the Mods just throw up their hands and close the thread. (which is what the whiny over reporter wanted in the first place.)

Well since we are just talking freely…I would propose that the report feature be limited to only direct threats of violence and child porn.

Butch

Thanks, but I'd rather not.

There's a whole rest of this site that doesn't involve the preferences of those who mostly inhabit P&R. Some of us actually don't want the discussion forums flooded with personal ads, stupid 'come suck cock' crap that gets posted in Upcoming Events, and threads where people chose to complain about fakes in Positive Experiences. The report feature works just fine in those instances, so why fix what isn't broken?

mnottertail -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 10:25:57 AM)

Oh, come suck cock and settle down LP, it is snowing there anyway, what else you got to do?

Doing the first two. The last one is primarily for keeping the toys clean. [;)]

For what it's worth, the sucking gig isn't the issue. It's when some twatwaffle tries to pass it off as a community event when they are in a hotel out of town somewhere and think calling it an "event" is a way to get a hummer.

Just include those items in a drop box... that would limit abuse... After all these are modern computers... there is no reason reports can't be structured before they come to the attention of a moderator. I still believe however that all accepted complaints should be made public with the name of those filing the complaints.

I personally have not ever clicked the report button but if I did I would stand by my complaint publicly.

99% of the time we only close a thread temporarily, to give us enough time to go through the entire thread without us having to chase down the final post.

But, you are correct that we do have to check every report, and when you have someone that posts 46 tickets in less than 24 hours it makes for a pretty unpleasant day.

Damn, I wish I would have thought of that. I was S of Myrtle Beach all last week. Maybe petitespot would have fallen for it.

46!!!??? Holy cow.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 11:05:00 AM)

I don't think I've made 46 reports in 5 years.

VideoAdminChi -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 11:05:12 AM)

FR,

Complaints are starting to come in for this thread. I would prefer to not moderate a thread on moderation, and won't be moderating this one myself, but the reporters do have a point about allowing a debate about the rules that breaks the rules.

Please knock off the nasty digs about each other.

If y'all are interested in having another unmoderated thread as Rho described above, let us know and we will discuss.

I bet I could narrow it down to 2 people.

mnottertail -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 11:15:42 AM)

I could name that person (actually persons) in one note.

Can we have one that is called "This is why I think you are a dick"? Not you dear lady but thread title.
