And just for record, I've never complained to the mods.

This isn't happening.

That's a lie. And the practice is getting more common, and ever more blatant.

Claiming that a thread about an ideological wing in the forum is the same as singling out an individual?

Deleting a thread and prohibiting the subject from P&R, when those who turn every tragedy involving a firearm into a smear of all gun owner have a mass murderer who used a bus shoved back at them?

Shark jump. Ain't buying it.

I dont agree Rich. Your Op was correct to start with regards how threads morph, but I cant go along with the part about threads getting locked due to left leaning moderation.

I only ever see thread locked where the insults are getting out of hand, not due to left leaning or right leaning moderation. Lets not forget threads get locked due to fall outs often as not due to personality clashes. I am clearly to the right of centre and have fallen out with several posters on the left on certain issues, just as I have with several posters on the right.

Chi has had to send me more than my share of gold cmails, and for the most part I have accepted they are deserved. I can only recall one where i wholly disagreed.

and did someone too gutless to offer their cognizance of "what's fair free speech and what's not" call me a 'sock'? Sans context? Oh yeah, there's a GREAT example of rpesumed free-speech. It's like Seth Rogan on a bong-bender claiming to do a Vegas stage show of Black Adder and invoking the thespian spirit of Rowan Atkinson while thinking "Titus Andronicus" is a brand of instant coffee.

Why yes. I did. Not technically a sock in the strict definition, but a new account from someone who burned out the old one, and would prefer not to carry their baggage.

And it ain't a free speech thing. It's their house.

Enjoy the return visit.

Bye.

FR
Might I suggest that certain posters who do nothing but post personal attacks and then report any responses be banned. Most of us are grown ups and do not report posts even when disagreements get heated. However it is clear that certain posters are using the mods to lock/delete threads they are losing.

Good point.

Good point. I have only ever reported one post aimed at me afaik, he no longer posts under the name I reported.

very interesting and salient point. and without intention of challenging Heretic and William, it begs the question of the Chi: did either of them offer to be mods and put in the same amount of time, taken from their free time, as Chi does?

[:D] LOL No. No one who posts in P&R is allowed to be a moderator LOL

DaddySatyr -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 4:58:17 AM)

That the lefties run this section of the forums is a foregone conclusion. I posted a thread about being moderated for a non-violation of ToS and it was promptly pulled.

The "violation" was invoked because the lefties on this forum didn't like something so, as is usual, an "accomodation" was made.

My e-mails about that have consistently been ignored for two months. For those two months, I have had a limitation placed on me and that seems to be okay.

My previous post to this thread was full of "LOL"s because I know better.

The slanted moderation continues and the world keeps turning.

I think it speaks to the real ideology of the left; if you can't convince people, take over and ram your cock down their throat. Then, they can't gripe.

It's proved remarkably successful and therein lies the rub.

Orion, I see your point of view, but the reality is that there is no way to moderate where everyone is happy. We will always be accused of being to harsh or too soft regardless of what we do.

Then don't try to make everyone happy. Ignore the comments from us and just do what needs to be done. If that means some people are moderated or banned, then so be it. We are all adults and should accept responsibility for our actions.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 5:27:10 AM)

Free speech? I don't think the government tried to interfere with what you were saying.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 6:06:14 AM)

I left this one for a while and now I'm back.

First, I don't necessarily see the Mods being partisan as much as I see them being used by a couple of passive aggressive little whiners who use them to get threads locked and deleted. (Sanity was an expert at that. He'd slam the board with a bunch of posts calling people names and then file a score or more of tickets to anything that was posted so instead of zapping him, the mods would just sigh, shake their heads and lock the thread)

I'm not naming names here but if the shoe fits then lace that motherfucker up and wear it.

Maybe if the main whiners were sent on a little vacation then more peaceful discourse would reign.

Claiming that a thread about an ideological wing in the forum is the same as singling out an individual?

This is something I only learned myself in the last few months - in addition to the topic not being individual posters, groups of posters cannot be made the topic. So your thread in which the OP was about "many of our usual suspect American libbies seem to have vanished from the forum lately?" was pulled as it made "libbies on the P&R forum" the topic. Additionally, most of the responses made either other posters the topic or groups of posters the topic. Furthermore, I ran this by Rho and she agreed with me that there was no way this thread would work.

quote:

Deleting a thread and prohibiting the subject from P&R, when those who turn every tragedy involving a firearm into a smear of all gun owner have a mass murderer who used a bus shoved back at them?

This was a tough one that I believe I also ran by Rho. I'll look into resurrecting it and letting y'all vote whether it belongs in P&R or not. There were complaints from a number of different posters about this, both that it did not belong in P&R in the first place and for the responses.

I'll take this opportunity to mention that we don't go looking for trouble in P&R - we mostly just respond to tickets or something we see on the scroll.

Furthermore, I looked at the tickets I sent you in the past 6 months and actually agreed with the sentiments in 3/5 of them. I truly believe that I don't pull posts due to bias - I pull them because they violate the rules. Some posters with whom I agree ideologically are my biggest critics. I'm often pained about what I have to pull...or what I have to leave.

While all of this sounds very nice and PC, I think you're taking this awfully personally. The issue is (and has been, for quite some time) the editorial slant of the moderation policies.

No one is blaming any specific moderator (although if you can truly be objective, you'd be a marvel of nature). The problem is; that you have (and have had) people of a particular bent as moderators and it shows through in the policies that get "created"/enforced.

A preponderance of participants are left wingers.
This means that most likely a preponderance of whiners are left wingers (just on demographics) this could create an appearance of bias (more complaints = more tickets distributed among a smaller population)
I personally have not been "victimized" (that I know of) by leftist mods

I will note that I recently found out, in response to a very racist series of posts, that once a post has been reported by anyone it accepts no more reports on that post so there is no liberal pile on on objectionable right wing posts. Now it may be true that there are more leftists who post here, even taking into the "moderate independents," but as far as I know the right wingers who have gotten bans were truly unpleasant rule breakers who got lots of chances before getting the boot.

The lefties didn't like it. It had to go. Fuck any claims of non-bias.

E-mails to discuss this have gone ignored for two months.

No argument.
I did not mean to suggest piling on.
Just that with a larger population (and thus more whiners) there will be more complaints in general.
I most assuredly did not mean to imply a vast left wing conspiracy.
I was just pointing out one way that bias could be "seen" when it wasn't there.

I'm curious as to the what lefties have gone on mod assisted vacations? I don't know any. I know half a dozen righties that send me emails because they were banned.

I'm not saying there aren't any, but I am curious.
