My personal view is that when they break in to your home, or pull a weapon on you they are fair game.

I think where we have disagreements are on things like does having a flashlight constitute "pulling a weapon"?

We recently had a thread were a man was beaten to death with........as flashlight so it can be.

So we've determined that pulling a weapon makes you fair game and that having a flashlight constitutes pulling a weapon. Assuming that a gun is as much of a weapon as a flashlight, this means that having a gun makes you fair game.

So is it legal to shoot tea party protesters?

If they're trying to get into your house at 4am, yes.

That was easy. [:D]

A they are exercising their right of assembly.
B they are not threatening anyone

Of course if you shoot one the rest will return fire.
And they have to pull the weapon on you and make some reasonable indication that you
are the tack.

guns are threatening by definition.

BamaD -> RE: What are the limits to self defense. (3/6/2014 1:05:39 PM)

guns are threatening by definition.

Only to a person with an irrational fear of firearms

mnottertail -> RE: What are the limits to self defense. (3/6/2014 1:08:16 PM)

not true, even seasoned hunting dogs, put a gun up to their head, watch their eyes twitch, they know what they do.

'So is it legal to shoot tea party protesters?'

Possibly not legal. But certainly sensible, wise, right and moral ...

Yeah really. One chased me down the block just the other night. I was lucky to get away. It was a lousy shot. [:D]

Alrighty then. Please do not advocate illegal acts, even in jest.

How can you know that are you psychic?

Whoa hold on there having a flashlight constituted pulling a deadly weapon and made an old man "fair game".

Do you think flashlights are more dangerous than guns? Do you have an irrational fear of flashlights?

mnottertail -> RE: What are the limits to self defense. (3/6/2014 3:37:50 PM)

How about skittles?  Tea?  Hoodies?

No I don't have to be psychic. If they were running around threatening people every news service in the country
would have covered that ad we would already have a thread on it.
I think a man coming at me at night when I have told him three times to stop is far more threatening
than people demonstrating in favor of there 2nd amendment rights.
Is there no end to the irrational arguments you will present.

In the long run, misrepresentations of fact are probably more dangerous than either.

A> Where have you been, Denial?

B> Threatening wasn't listed in your criteria earlier. If the confused, lost, cold, old man had been brandished his flashlight in a threatening manner that would at least be some justification toward the need for self defense.

C> I don't know about every news service, Fox News (looking fair to the unbalanced) probably skips it.

DomKen -> RE: What are the limits to self defense. (3/6/2014 4:55:39 PM)

claim 1
Walking with a flashlight is so threatening it justifies killing someone.

claim 2
Walking with a firearm is not so threatening to justify killing someone.

Huh?

Shame you can't read. Advancing on someone when warned to stop is threatening.
Walking down the street as part of a peaceful demonstration isn't.

What if they're told to stop, then can Tea Party demonstrations be legally shot?
