The mall, the park, whatever. One thing is clear, this president wants to make a big production over the shutdown and inflict as much pain as possible. It's way over the top shutting vets out of the memorials while at the same time illegals are having their protest at the mall. It's freakin repugnant as are the things you listed on post #257.

Wrong. The President must have a law authorizing him to spend any money. The Pentagon specifically told the House when they passed the bill that guarantees that soldiers would get paid that these death benefits would not be paid unless authorized by the bill they were writing. The House Republicans left it out so the Pentagon can not pay those benefits. I'm very happy Fisher House has stepped up.

Yes, it's a good thing the Fisher House stepped up. But since when has the constraints of the law stopped Obama ? He unilaterally and unconstitutionally decides to alter the ACA how he sees fit. If he is going to decree that businesses and corporations can delay compliance on the mandates for a year why can't he extend the same thing to individuals ? I wonder if he could break the stalemate with a compromise on that.

Not only that but the House has passed a number of spending measures that the Senate has refused to act on and Obama has threatened to veto.

... In the last 24 hours, however, the Department of Defense was approached by the Fisher House Foundation, which had generously offered to make payments to these families from its own funds. In consultation with the Office of Management and Budget, DoD has determined that we can enter into a contract with the Fisher House Foundation to provide these benefits. The Fisher House Foundation will provide the families of the fallen with the benefits they so richly deserve. After the shutdown ends, DoD will reimburse the Fisher House for the costs it has incurred.

I'm glad to see a private entity stepping up and filling the gap.

Yet another lie. The ACA has waiver provisions. If it did not the Republicans could sue the administration for granting those waivers. Why do you believe every load of crap told to you by the right wing echo chamber?

The President has already compromised, the CR is set at the sequester spending levels. The President has not demanded any tax hikes or other concessions from the GOP. He has just said send him a clean CR and then a clean budget.

And no one is so ignorant to fall for that piece meal crap. The House would reopen the stuff people deal with a lot and leave the parts the corps hate, EPA, FDA, USDA, CFPBV closed forever. We're not that fucking stupid.

Oh ok Ken, I guess that's apposed to believing everything coming out of the left wing echo chambers. I suppose I'll have to try and look it up but ya know, out of the 2,400 page bill dwarfed only by the pages of regulations from it and those to come, there is likely some conflicting information out there. As I thought I understood it, there was a time frame on the wavers and Obama is tweaking the law as we go. Even if this isn't the case, he could extend the waver to individuals also.
