I should also point out that the minneapolis airport bathroom is closed to teabagger 'caucuses' as well. It also was teabagged.

And I'm sure you're disappointed [8D]

No gun permits issued during shutdown muff....jsyk...[:D]

Now that really pisses me off [8D]

Somebody is playing games, that's for sure...

There’s a cute little historic site just outside of the capital in McLean, Virginia, called the Claude Moore Colonial Farm. They do historical reenactments, and once upon a time the National Park Service helped run the place. But in 1980, the NPS cut the farm out of its budget. A group of private citizens set up an endowment to take care of the farm’s expenses. Ever since, the site has operated independently through a combination of private donations and volunteer workers.

The Park Service told Claude Moore Colonial Farm to shut down.

The farm’s administrators appealed this directive—they explained that the Park Service doesn’t actually do anything for the historic site. The folks at the NPS were unmoved. And so, last week, the National Park Service found the scratch to send officers to the park to forcibly remove both volunteer workers and visitors.

Think about that for a minute. The Park Service, which is supposed to serve the public by administering parks, is now in the business of forcing parks they don’t administer to close. As Homer Simpson famously asked, did we lose a war?

The farm has reportedly lost $15,000 since the NPS shut it down. But now, finally, that's over.

October 9, 2013

Hi Folks,

We have good news for you at last! The NPS has reversed their decision to close the Farm and we will be open tomorrow as usual. You can now visit the 18th century Farm, come to the Book Shop tomorrow afternoon, participate in Farm Skills on Thursday and have picnics at The Pavilions again. And all of our volunteers are welcome to come back “home”.

Just this morning we received the final absolute NO from the Dept. of Interior and were told the Farm would not open until the shutdown ended. An hour later the Park Police showed up and closed and barricaded the office gates with us inside. This has been a very rough week and we are profoundly grateful that this is ending...

We have no idea why the NPS changed its mind but we are very pleased that they did and hope that every group trying to operate on Federal lands has the same happy outcome.

Close it anyway! Make the shutdown hurt! Ooops, shit, nobody blamed the Republicans. Quick, open it back up!

These assholes in the Republican Party are endangering my life and the lives of many thousands of other Americans as well as the income of retirees (including military retirees) and the disabled.

But certain dumbass shitheads are worried about whether some National Park is open.

How on earth is your life endangered?

If the US defaults Medicare payments would be stopped or reduced as well as SS disability. Without Medicare every dialysis clinic in the country would close, essentially no one is on dialysis with private insurance. Without dialysis I'd live maybe 2 weeks.

Awwww.......yer just sayin that. But maybe there is some kind of documentation to show who's money they're being so liberal with.

There are copious amounts of documentation on that score, please refer to anyones paycheck or form 1040.

So the Tea Party is taxing the shit out of us ? Is that what you're trying to say ? What exactly are you trying to say ? I can seem to decipher your riddle.

I read just fine. It's my riddle comprehension skills that aren't up to par. Why don't you just spell it out so anyone who isn't Batman can figure it out. What is it on our paychecks or 1040's that show the Tea Party is being liberal with our money ?

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/10/2013 12:24:14 PM)

they are taxed yet the teabaggers are borrowing and spending even more of our money. Two thirds of the debt is owed to US citizens.

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/10/2013 12:32:37 PM)

In 1987, President Reagan said, "Unfortunately, Congress consistently brings us to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket. Instability would occur in financial markets and the federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibility - two things that set us apart in much of the world."

Listen to St.Wrinklemeat, teabaggers.

Tear down those teabags, Teabaggers!!!!!!

If the US defaults

US revenues are about 10x debt interest payments. Default is out of the question. What's on the table is decreasing spending. Both sides don't want that. And looks like Boner is going to cave.

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/10/2013 1:37:58 PM)

Ja, I have heard that horseshit before. But they will not cover social security, veterans (active and retired) payments and a host of other payments.

You pay your mortgage but fuck the lightbill, sewer, and insurance, and carpayment, your shit goes upside down anyway cuz you scare the shit out of bankers, and chinese people. Let alone americans, who hold 2/3rds of those notes and will run the fucking bank faster than you can say the teabaggers are inept, innumerate shiteaters.

That leaves one, and only one way out of the immediate mess, hyperinflation at the undertaking of the government (thats the teabaggers, in our world).

The notion is sub-ignorant. To voice it is beyond that.

Wrong. This dumbass fantasy that we can just redirect all federal income just to service the debt ignores the fact that even with most discretionary spending stopped there is still no way to do that without the ability to take on short term debt.

What's fantasy about it? Then I ask you, what is the interest on the debt versus revenues?

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/10/2013 2:32:36 PM)

interest is about 18% of revenues. 5 times, not 10.

Do you not understand there are other commitments that also must be paid? What happens in a month when cash flow isn't good, for instance the last month in quarter when no estimated tax or other quarterly payments are due ?

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/10/2013 2:53:19 PM)

Since about 2.76 trillion is owed to social security, how will payments be made out of current revenues?

Since we have soldiers how will they be paid?

Since we have federal retirees, presidents, senators, congressmen, postal workers, veterans, and so on, how will they be paid?

Since we have a great deal of rentals from their governments for troops in Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, and many other places how will they be paid?

Since we have payments to state's educational systems how will they be paid?

Since we have . . .

Okay. Still no problem.

Dk - Do you not understand there are other commitments that also must be paid?

Yes, there are. Commitments to contract are one thing. SS, Medicare, medicaid, etc are another. Contractual payments are non-discretionary.

MN - Since about 2.76 trillion is owed to social security, how will payments be made out of current revenues?

Those payments are not contractual. They are but promises. SS can go to zero and there would be no violation of government duty to pay.

Sucks, but that is the way it is.

What you're misunderstanding is that any default Boehner / Obama are stating is only predicated on non-payment of debt interest. They're all playing the fear game, and it's an air-ball currently.

So IOW you'd like to consign me to death in a very painful manner. The mods won't let me tell you what I think of that.
