It is wise to learn about the devices before using them. Purple wands are a lot of fun, but in terms of having the ability to cause an orgasm, depends on the person, I have had an orgasm forced out of me in session by it being used on my genitals (this was in my pro domme days), but I suspect that was more about my handling the sensation and turning into erotic energy, then direct stimulation.. Tens units and the like can do that, depending on how you set them, they can either cause pain or pleasure and they can cause orgasms. There are simple, cheap tens units that are running about 50 bucks these days, and they work, but I would see what others are saying and buy something that is multi channel and where the channels are independent from each other (i.e they don't share a common ground), which allows working a lot more safely. Some of the units made for play, by people like Eros Tek and PES (if they still exist), are more sophisticated and probably have more potential for play. As far as worrying about plug in devices, the downside is you have to have it plugged in, bit awkward, battery powered tens units are small and self contained. The plug in devices have an external transformer and the voltage and power going into the unit is limited by that, usually the transformers I have seen have the same output of a 9 v battery and thus are no different then a tens unit.
