A Gentleman is one that helps others feel safe, comfortable and ok, regardless of the situation around them. Being about to say some good heart felt words during a funeral, to cracking a few jokes during a hurricane that forces the laughter for a few moments. They may be far from perfect individuals, but they try to make the best of a bad situation. The President was in one such situation and handle the situation with dignity. However you feel about the man, there is no knocking his effort to remain a gentleman even when many in the country tear each other apart over one issue or another. Most gentleman do not get mad very often; when they do, it is rarely out in the open for others to see. An when something happens that would bring embarrassment on to someone else, these individuals typically deflect the attention else where. Thereby protecting the individual from ridicule and insult.

The President did something very noble and decent.

Wait, the President was acting... Presidential?!? Whodathunkit?!?

The worst part of all this is that actions such as these are newsworthy. They're only newsworthy if they aren't ordinary, common things. In this day and age, it sure seems like those actions are outside the norm.

Glad the President stopped what he was doing to help. That is good. I wish it wasn't something worthy of being mentioned in the news, though (and that's not a comment on this President, but on society, in general).

epiphiny43 -> RE: The Gentleman President (10/21/2013 6:31:19 PM)

Actually, I think he has been too gentlemanly to be effective most of his Presidency. He's much better at grasping hard ball political bargaining now, not moving to the middle of opposing positions before even starting the give and take? That didn't work!
Most criticisms of the POTUS have been constructed of whole cloth and many fully delusional. The job is beyond any human and I have real disagreements with a number of policies and decisions. I don't see any mean spiritedness or hard heart views of other people. Which is a huge improvement and recently unusual in politics.

DsBound -> RE: The Gentleman President (10/21/2013 7:06:36 PM)

Give him an atta boy for acting professional in his position... like 99% of them do.

Maybe his wife should follow his lead.

LOL! What crock of shit spin factory did that come out of? The woman was a fucking prop for his "we fucked it horribly, but our intentions were good," speech. What was he going to do, just keep running his mouth, while she keeled over?

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: The Gentleman President (10/22/2013 2:46:48 AM)

You just hate the idea there is someone in the White House with more character and ability than your entire party put together!

I keep getting a chuckle at all the conservatives that enter here and try to be petty towards the President in any way they can. Like you cant accept in your mind that the guy is much more decent than you would ever give him credit. But, that's your problem, not his. He did his job, and surpass what was acceptable in that moment.

I'm hoping he's as decent as he should naturally be. Like you, hopefully. Do you need a medal or some acknowledgement for what you should do? That is hardly being noble. Being noble is to go beyond that which anyone would expect.

This. Although I wish Obama was a much a human being in the big picture items as he was in that tiny trivial detail. That, however, was a human moment not a game of thrones moment so human rules applied.

Yes he was a gentleman, but I could see any number of Republicans doing that, too.

No, that's the realpolitik of campaigning, and campaigning is all my President is any good at. He's playing as upset about the fiasco of the computer system as he did with the IRS scandal, and I'm betting that like the IRS, he'll hold that pose right up to the moment we start hearing about the memos warning of the system inadequacies that the White House ignored, and then he'll call it all a phony scandal.

Prop. An accessory to dress the stage. I'm sure it was a very important moment in her life, and that she'll treasure her memories and souvenir photo, but she was standing there as a prop.

Owner59 -> RE: The Gentleman President (10/22/2013 7:39:09 PM)

Yeah...the site over load is just proof of the ACA`s unpopularity...[:D]

Owner59 -> RE: The Gentleman President (10/22/2013 7:44:48 PM)

Could you imagine folks, in the days during the building the interstate hi-way system, some un-educated back country dolt declaring it all a failure because there were some traffic jambs on it....

He would seem pretty silly and laughable.....back then and today...[:D]
