The sad news that Lou Reed died earlier today aged 71.

Another hero of mine passes, Sweet Jane is a mainstay of our set.

Lou, may your higher power bless you.

Oh man. That's a shame.

Still, we should all be so lucky to leave a legacy like his.

The Velvet Underground may not have inspired as many people to form a band as some of their peers. But everyone they did inspire went on to make great music. R.I.P. Lou Reed.

A terrible day, not a a beautiful day.

The only way it's horror is lessened is if he was in pain from the damage done by the Lifestyle, and would have preferred to 'exit'

A legend has left us.
We are all the poorer for his passing.
The world is forever enriched by his art and legacy.

RIP Lou, I will love you forever.

How did they notice? He's looked dead for the last decade and a half at least...

Harsh, but fair.

I have been listening to all my favourites, in memoriam.

My personal all time favourite being "The Future"

That observation seemed to you to be THE one worth posting here? No one will be drowning in your pool

Lou Reed lived in my hometown up until the last few years of his life. He was a true member of the community, playing pool at the local bar, grocery shopping , etc. He was VERY intelligent, and the epitome of Cool.
He will be missed.

FR~

Until the news last night I'd never heard of him or Velvet Underground.
Of all the musical clips they played all night long on the news, I'd only ever heard of 'Walk on the Wild Side'.
I'm only 16 years his junior so I lived through his era; obviously listening to everyone else.

I daresay he inspired a lot of other groups and singers, but he didn't do anything for me.
I guess I shan't miss him, or his music.

I recall you said something very similar in the thread when J.J.Cale died. Perhaps you should consider leaving your house occasionally.

Yep. Never heard of him either.
My musical taste, although quite wide, is also extremely singular by choice.
If I hear something I like, I'll look further into it. Maybe even grab a song or two.
Other than that, I completely and utterly dismiss what I heard and who did it and forget it.
I am way too busy to clutter my mind with incidental stuff that doesn't hold my interest.
My music library is currently just over 26,500 albums.
All of them are 60's, and 70's with a tiny handful of 80's and smidge of classical.
And no, none of it includes a single item from either performer.

ETA: To be honest, music plays such little part of my life that I wouldn't miss all those that I know of if they all dropped stone dead tomorrow. I listen to maybe an hour or two a year and that's it.
Sad but true.

I don't think that you understand that the statement you are making says everything about you, and nothing about Lou's music

I understand perfectly what I said and I meant every single word of it.
What it says is..... I didn't like what little bit I heard over the years and I shan't miss him.
In fact, I disliked it so intensely, that it no longer registered in my memory.
