Here it is. This is the easiest way to make the old fashioned soap from scratch. It's a little less flexible in the "pretty soap" category. But is is awesome for the skin, and fun to make.

You will need
Crock pot
Pyrex glass measuring cups. ( at least 2)
Wooden spoons
Hand blender ( the wand kind )

Avocado oil 12 oz
Coconut oil 3 oz
Jojoba oil 9 oz
Palm oil 2 oz
Shea butter 2 oz

Distiller water. 10 oz
Sodium hydroxide (lye) 3 oz.

2 oz. of fragrance or essential oil

1.Put all the oils into the crock pot on low to melt.

2. Measure out distilled water. Place in glass bowl.

3 Open your container of lye, and gently shake out the amount you need for your recipe into another Pyrex measuring cup. As soon as you have the correct measure of lye, tightly close the lid on your lye container and put it aside in a safe place.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I use goggles for this!!!!! (NEVER; add the water to the lye, or; pour the lye into the container of water all at once, because; it will have a violent reaction and jump right out of the pitcher and either on you... or down the front of your cupboards!) DO NOT BREATHE while stirring the lye into the water. The solution will fume for about 30 seconds to one minute after mixing with water. You could damage your lungs if you breathe the fumes. If you spill any lye crystals on your cupboard while measuring the exact amount, use a wet wash cloth and clean it up. If you miss any crystals and then put your hand on one... or step on one with a bare foot, you will never forget it... it hurts!

4. Once the lye/water is mixed, it time to add it to the melted oils. Slowly pour the lye mixture into the crock pot.

5. Use hand blender (the wand kind) to mix SLOWLY until you can see the soap begin to 'trace'. This is the beginning of the soap. It will start to look like pudding.

6. When you feel,it start to thicken, stop blending. Let it cook it the crock pot until the edges look like they are pulling way from the sides. Then ends up kinda like mashed potatoes. ( lol. I WARNED you I've been doing this a long time. Not very professional recipe. )
This takes about 40-50 minutes. Watch it towards the end.

7. Okay. This is the fun part. Time to add the essential oils. Any essential oil that you like the smell of will work. I never measure this. Just add until you think it is fragranced enough for you.

8. Here comes the art. Check the website out for additives. You can now add. Mica (for sparkles) oxides ( pretty colors. Herbs ( exfoliate. But these make a MESS when you use the soap. )

9. Sometimes I add some powered milk. No fragrance and some rice flour. Makes the most amazing facial exfoliating bar.

10. Use a heat resistant plastic ladle to pour soap into mold. Easiest is a silicone bread loaf pan. But any fairly flexible heat resistant plastic container would work.

11. When soap is completely solid and COOLED you can pop it out of the mold. Slice it up anyway you would like. It can be used right away. It just won't last as long. Letting it "cure " for a week will harden the soap and make a longer lasting bar. I like to cut mine into pretty cubes. Looks less like the slabs of fudge. I've also used orange juice cans. Just peel away the cardboard when soap is cool, and cut into circle slices.

If you want tips on making them really pretty I will add the to the thread.

You can get EVERYTHING on the list there.

COMING NEXT.
Easy Melt and Pour. Makes thinner smoother base so you can use all the pretty soap molds out there.

Great website, TY.

For awhile there is was hard to get lye online.

This first recipe (and yes we want more) ...how much soap does it make?

It makes probably 2 full loaf pans. Depending on how big,you cut the bars, you could get dozens.
It's hard for me to be exact, because I always use a bunch of different size containers and molds.

Some other tips I thought of.

When you get to adding the essential oils and/or the colors. If you want a swirl effect or a multi color effect. Add the oil first and stir well.
Then add the colors but DONT MIX thoroughly. Just kinda swirl it around. You can do this with the sparkly mica as well. It makes each bar unique and is really cool looking.

ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING!!

You cannot use the crock pot ever again for food!!!!!

Old or used ones are pretty easy to,find at thrift stores for fairly cheap.

Hooray! Another soap crafter! Glad to meet you. Post pictures please?

Blonderfluff does it the brave way. I just use melt-n-pour, but dang, you can make the prettiest stuff with it. Here are some 'gemstone' hearts I made:
