What Igor said

Then I'll call bullshit on both of you.

Personally, I'm just enjoying the hell out of this latest spin. "The problem with Obamacare implementation is that the Republicans didn't help."

Translation being, "Democrats are utterly incompetent, when left to their own devices."

No. The problems with the ACA are it is too much a right wing plan. Obama wanted a bipartisan plan so he adopted a marginally successful right wing think tanks plan under the assumption that the GOP would go along with it. Instead they fought it, even though it was their plan pushed by their side throughout the 1990's.

If the Democrats had just gone ahead with what their base wanted, and what most Americans want, it would have been a single payer plan.

Like you give a rats ass about whether the whole law is any good or not, Lucy. It has nothing to do with you, beyond being the current storyline in your favorite soap opera.

No, instead we have them selling us all into slavery and eroding constitutional rights to the point of non-existence.

And all the while, except for a couple Ted Rall types who haven't fled the country, people who actually hold the values of liberalism dear are just impotently watching it happen.

Got to love it when a right winger claims in one post that liberals are eroding people's rights and in another tries to deny someone the right to speak.

Considering your thread about the horrors of free speech the other day, Lucy, it's nice to see you have come to your senses...

Where have I tried to censor? You speak, I speak. If part of my response is to point out that your speech is useless, meaningless, fangirl diarrhea of the fingers, from somebody with no skin in the game, that's how free speech works.

Then I'll call bullshit on both of you.

And you should. No matter where I stand on the ACA (jury's out in my mind), the facts on this are simple.

The Democrats wanted something.
The Republicans didn't want to play along.
The Democrats pushed forward anyway.

Ergo, it's all on them. I think the Republicans can safely wash their hands of most of it. I'd be annoyed to find that crap like the web site struggles were the result of underfunding from Republican efforts but yeah, the Democrats need to hold the lions share of whatever good/bad comes from the ACA.

FR

It's going to be interesting to see just how long it takes the Obamabots to figure out how bad their self-inflicted wound is.

I really don't see it as being "self-inflicted". I remember people...Democrats, Republicans, and everyone else...complaining about the rising cost of health care ever since I joined the work force back in the early '70's. I remember almost every year the amount taken out of my pay for health care went up and up, and the deductibles went up and up as well. It didn't matter who controlled the House, the Senate, or the Oval Office. Nothing was done about it. The problem was simply ignored.

Until Obama. He promised to try to reform health care, and once he was in office he tried to do just that.

As I remember it, he asked the Republicans to join in, offer their input, and make it a bi-partisan deal. But the Republicans were all butt hurt from losing the election, so they crossed their arms, put a big pout on their faces, and refused to cooperate on anything Obama tried to do, regardless of how it effected the country.

So the resulting health care bill was every bit as much to blame on Republicans for their lack of participation, as it is the Democrats for at least trying to do something, even though it is FAR from perfect. And BOTH parties are to blame for not having done something years ago, when it would have been more easily addressed.

Nicely said, and what you write is the truth, despite what scumbags of the GOP try to claim, that our healthcare system was fine, the market was working, etc. Health insurance premiums have been skyrocketing for years, and claiming it is Obamacare is an outright lie (with our last health care plan, the estimate from my company is that 40 bucks of the increase was obamacare, most of it was simply the health insurance company raising rates.). What the GOP doesn't want to admit is it doesn't have any idea, I heard one stupid tea bagger on NPR talking about a young person who had been paying 69 bucks a month, and under obamacare it would be 355....course, what the commentator nailed him on, was the 69 buck a month 'plan' basically was a discount plan to see a doctor, it had no hospitilization, it had no drug coverage, etc.

And if I hear one more right wing moron claiming that people have the right to determine their own health insurance or have none at all, I think I might just wring their necks. See, what these 'liberatarian' types leave out, is those people who refuse to buy health insurance want to do is not pay the cost of insurance, and then when they get sick expect everyone else to pay it, they get sick, get treatment, and then guess who pays for it? It reminds me of the idiots claiming the right to ride without a helmet with a motorcycle, then said donkey gets into an accident, has severe brain trauma, and then guess who pays for their care? Rick Santorum hit the nail on the head of the GOP position, that if someone gets sick and doesn't have insurance, they should go to the emergency room....like, Ricky Baby, who pays for that? I also have been hearing that thanks to the tea party types and their insistance on 'gutting the beast', money from the government to reimburse charity cases has been slashed...

I also will add that I suspect these cancellations aren't because of Obamacare, but rather the health insurance companies are afraid of losing their stellar profits, the kind that gave the head of United Healthcare a 100 million dollar payday a couple of years ago. They are dropping people I would bet because they want this kind of backlash, they want Obamacare gone so they can continue raising rates by 20% a year, and getting wealth out of people getting sick.

And Igor is right, the GOP has offered absolutely nothing, their claim is the current system is fine, which it is of course if you are in the 1% or if you are the executives at health insurance companies. They mumble about 'market factors', they talk about interstate plans, but what they leave out is there are very few insurance companies out there, there are roughly 5 or 6, so no matter where you go, it is the same thieves. They will tell you a health insurance plan in Arkansas is cheaper than NJ, but what they don't tell you is a)doctors are cheaper in Arkansas and b) a lot of those plans have huge exclusions plans in NJ don't have, that could leave someone exposed to huge bills when they find out it doesn't cover cancer care.

The GOP cannot explain why almost 50 million people had no health insurance, they can't explain why it has been rising at levels 4 times inflation, all they can do is say no to Obamacare, and claim to 'care' about people. Meanwhile, the reason the plans have been going up isn't the cost of payouts, it is that in raising those prices the way they have, they guarantee huge profits for the insurers and misery for patients. Premiums have gone through the roof, deductibles are higher, rates of payments have dropped, insurance companies drop patients who get sick, and their executives are living quite nicely..and this the GOP calls 'the world's greatest healthcare system', when in many ways the US has a healthcare system that is worse than almost any industrialized country. A scumbag like Donald Trump claims medical care is fine, but of course, living like he does, getting rich screwing his backers, he doesn't have to worry about it.

njlauren -> RE: He said it would be steak, but ... (11/9/2013 7:34:38 PM)

All you have to say about the GOP is that they are very good at mobilizing the morons in this country, their leadership has so catered to the redneck morons that they are caught in being labelled what Bobby Jindal called "the party of Stupid", and this is exactly what they have become, a party of religious wackjobs, old people screaming about socialized medicine while demanding "Government, hands off our medicare", blue collar boobs who really believe that the problems of the world are blacks and hispanics 'living off the government', and people from down south and the farm belt who claim they get nothing from the government and pay for everyone else, when they rely a lot more heavily on the government than people other places. It has gotten so bad that the Chamber of Commerce and a lot of very well off people are actually supporting Democrats and are actively trying to get the redneck leadership of the GOP thrown out, along with the tea party.

And oh, yeah, the federal website was a disaster, but guess what, it faced tremendous load..why?Cause all these GOP states refused to set up exchanges, so people from there had to go to the feds, unlike states like California that could handle it locally...known as blaming others for your own stupidity. If Obama has half a brain, he will have the Justice Department investigating health insurance companies and see if in fact the policies that are cancelled were due to ACA, or if Insurance companies are creating a situation to try and destroy ACA, I suspect they are going to find the companies colluded to try and wreck it, in fact I would bet on it.

MrRodgers -> RE: He said it would be steak, but ... (11/9/2013 10:38:18 PM)

When will the people of this country ever fucking learn ? This is AMERICA. So, it isn't about health care, it is...about money.

Obamacare insures that I work at a job providing health insurance until either I am no longer able to do so or such jobs no longer exist.
Then it's Belize or Vanu Attu.

Oh. It was the GOP's fault. Whew. For a minute there I was thinking Pelosi said "we will vote on it and then read it" when the Dems controlled both houses and were nicely assuming it would be okay with the GOP and just did not ask them. Silly me.

DaddySatyr -> RE: He said it would be steak, but ... (11/10/2013 9:34:40 PM)

But it WAS the GOP's fault. They didn't mobilize enough vote to throw this socialist piece of shit out of office.

The important point is so many Americans could afford the "substandard" plan giving them what they could afford and now they must pay the penalty rather than buy insurance they cannot afford and so those who had insurance no longer have it to allow those who previously lacked insurance to have free or subsidized insurance. This is wealth redistribution for the purpose of destroying America. What, you though Obama going to church every Sunday and listening to the most reverend Wright preach the destruction of America somehow never sunk into this man, week after week after week, the hate and vile poison never tainted this man's outlook on his country. Somehow everyone missed that his wife was never "proud of this country" until Wright's disciple obtained the White House? Interesting how all the "warning signs" of this debacle were all there. Quick, what has he done so far? Guantanamo Bay = failure, return of manufacturing = failure, green energy = failure, shovel ready jobs = failure, energy independence = failure, world peace = failure, Iraq = failure, keeping people in their homes = failure, blaming Bush = success, many golf outings = success, SNL appearances = mixed bag, health care available to all = failure, most open administration = don't make me laugh, bipartisan governance = seriously?, weaken our standing in the word = success, provide for the national defense = failure, approve new girly hats for male marines = success, apologize for obamacare = failure, knowledge of what his government is doing to Americans = failure, defend the
Constitution = failure.

Oh, don't even come back with what Bush did, like whatever some President in the past did might cover for the current "Leader of the Free World". "Leader of the Free World", that's what everyone used to call the American President, now he is the "Joke of the Free World" and we along with it. Except me. I voted against him. No joke.

I'm trying to figure out if by this comment you think I support this administration. My apologies if I'm misunderstanding you but just to be clear, I don't support this administration or the ACA.
