Mind you now, this ain't no hype. This is official "real" "true" BDSM gear approved approved by none other than the author of 50 Shades of Grey. Yup, E L James has a line of BDSM gear. So burn all that fake shit you have in your dungeons and duffel bags. Throw away your Mike Murphy, Joe Strain, Adam Winrich, Peter Jack, Simon Martin and Rhett Kelley single tails. Burn your Snake Pit Leather Works, Heartwood and SoftDesire floggers. Bury your Stormy Leather leathers and Skin Two latex rubber wear. Step away from the medical gear, fire play and electricity. Get off your throne, come out of your cage and get down from your cross to go get you some real gear.

Yuppers, now you can "Play like GREY" using the "Fifty Shades of Grey Official Pleasure Collection" that is "Approved by EL James" and "Turn fantasies into reality...."

There are also 3 kinds of Fifty Shades of Grey Sex Kits and etc ranging from $105 - $128.

I didn't put this in the Bondage Gear and Apparel forum (or give links) because the interesting thing for me isn't that you couldn't actually hurt anyone with that stuff unless you poked them in the eye with it (at least he won't have to worry about injury lawsuits). What is interesting to me is the effect all this fluff gear is going to have on the vanilla world now that they can "play like Grey". What happens after they use this slap & tickle gear? Will they think they just became official E L James certified BDSMers and part of the leather community now that they "play like Grey?" What happens if they step out into the real BDSM world and see edge play, protocol, humiliation and the gay leather crowd?

Will the horny housewife and her married and cheating Dom venture out in to the leather world to go "play like Grey" and get slapped in the face by a pair of leathermen doing anal edge play or saline scrotum inflation? Imagine if they see a real masochist with a catheter on a cross that gets all bloody when the edgy Top picks up a knife and starts cutting? How about a private party and they peek into the backroom to see a Domme sitting on the human toilet throne with her poop eating slave's head under the seat . . . then she shits all over her toilet slave? Needles, sutures, medical staplers, dunking, fire play, waterboarding, extreme electro torture . . . imagine all that romantic 50 Shades stuff in their head with only a slap and tickle gear exposure when suddenly they come face to face with an extreme torture scene, a crucifixion where the pain is so intense, the subject involuntarily shits themselves while falling limp, crying and puking.

I've been to a lot of parties in my life. Even the mildest ones can get pretty extreme compared to slap & tickle. Don't get me wrong, I love slap & tickle. I do it a lot, giving my slave an erotic spanking almost daily. But I am more than very familiar and comfortable with edge play too. I just can't imagine if this "50 Shades" gear will have an impact on the millions of fans. Will they use it and start thinking they are part of the scene now that they "play like Grey"? Will it inspire them to take the next step and venture deeper into the leather community to start joining clubs and attending dungeon parties?

Before you pass them the saline and vacuum aspirator . . . what do you think, are they doomed, are we or what?

Look at it this way, maybe if those who are into the books buy this stuff then maybe we won't have to hear about the fire department having to rescue people who couldn't figure out how to operate key cuffs or ER rooms rescuing stupid people who thought the the books sounded like fun and they had no clue.

At least with these toys they can't hurt themselves......hopefully. Then again....well I won't say anymore lest I get a gold letter.

Geez, when did George Lucas get involved with this? It was bad enough they made kid's shows solely to sell merch, now this? I quit riding because of all the wannabes with credit on 'em now. Don't tell me I gotta let this go too...

I'll be over here in the corner eating popcorn and wearing a shirt with this on it:

HoldinOn -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/9/2013 9:15:26 PM)

Thinking these items are going to marketed to the "Kiss and Tell" or "Naughty and Nice" shoppers. Not those headed down to Mr. and Madam S in San Francisco. It's rather difficult to think you are hard core when you are buying your sex toys at a place that sells boobie cake molds and penis lollipops.

JeffBC -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/9/2013 9:20:08 PM)

OMFG! I'm not even into SM and this is just beyond hysterical to me. Seriously? Who would buy this stuff. I would MUCH, MUCH rather buy the cheap restraint set in the generic adult store than this crap. That stuff may be cheap but at least it's not so reminiscent of LARPing.

My guess is that people aren't as stupid as you're suggesting RS. I'm pretty freakin vanilla (although I don't say that where LP can hear it because she glares at me). But honestly, I was NEVER that naive. I think I could've figured out that a BDSM kit based on 50 shades of grey wasn't likely to resemble the stuff I'd see in some hardcore place in San Francisco. I'd also like to mention that at my very first play party ever I saw something worse (to me anyway) than anything you listed. I saw a scene go bad. I didn't go run screaming from the scene of the crime. I hung around and watched carefully and saw how the recovery happened and saw that long-term friendships remained long-term friendships and obviously there was not that much for me to be worried about other than "shit happens".

JeffBC -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/9/2013 9:36:49 PM)

OMFG! OK, now suddenly I'm having a strong urge to find my way to Lupercalia this year and greet KnightOfMysts warmly... all decked out in my "play like grey" gear.

Damn we are poverty stricken nowadays but that just might be funny enough to be worth prioritizing.

MrRodgers -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/9/2013 9:54:43 PM)

Nothing to see here...the author is just another capitalist.

littlewonder -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/9/2013 9:56:39 PM)

I hate to say it Jeff, but you're naive. [:D]

Yes there are people stupid enough to believe and buy that crap. I see it all the time. But these are not the people you are gonna find at a bdsm gathering or club. These are people who usually go to Renaissance festivals and read Harlequin romance novels and at the very most..might, MIGHT find themselves at a swingers party at someone's home.

TieMeInKnottss -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/9/2013 10:10:08 PM)

Hey, if they need a little something to re-ignite their marital flame and this makes them feel "kinky"...what the hell? You can look at the items and tell they are the equivalent of buying your "Home Depot Tools" at Toys r Us... Cutesy & real looking plastic but nobody is going to get any real work done. Actually...wait until they find out what you can get at Home Depot...

While building this web site Fire Whips for my good friend Riz, he recounted a story about the 6 ft fire bullwhip he sold to a New Yorker. By the way, we are talking about white gas, kerosine, not alcohol.

First, let me tell you about a 6 foot fire bullwhip. When you crack it, it creates a a flaming aerosol ball of fuel the size of large beach ball and it travels from 10 - 25 yards depend on how loaded the whip was.

So back to this guy in the NYC apartment that takes it out on his balcony to practice. Well, the back spray caught the curtains on fire and the ball of flame from the crack lit the porch furniture on fire. It was pretty bad and as I recall, I think the fire department had to come.

So yes, good thing that stuff he sells is relatively harmless. Hmmm . . . but then again, maybe we we should sell fire whips to those to 50 Shades of Grey fans. Could weed out the tourists rather quickly. <eg>

The blindfold and wrist restraints say 50 Shades of Grey on them and come with little 50 Shades of Grey silk carrying bags. Surely a conversation piece in any venue.

Ya know....I'm pretty sure a huge percentage of us started out exploring this on a "vanilla" bdsm level. We didn't jump right into hardcore, extreme play on day one. At least I didn't. It was a gradual learning experience. Try something. Like it. Try something else a little more extreme. Like it. And so on and so on.

Look at all your judgmental attitudes. Like you were the gods and goddesses of the munch the first day you stepped into the ring.

It doesn't affect my life one fucking bit if anyone buys this stuff. They do it because they're curious. They're starting somewhere. Just like we all did.

lilcracker -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/10/2013 1:47:45 AM)

Cheap toys have been available in porn stores for as long as I can remember.....so how is over priced cheap toys with the 'Grey' name on it going to change things.....this stuff was available in the Pure Romance Line although it was not official Grey gear it did suggest the 50 shades book....and yeah it was really over priced...but who cares.

Seriously it doesn't bother me in the least....if people want to buy it...if people want to 'be' simply because they read the books bought some of this crap and come here...it still doesn't bother me.

Is this the new true way...if you read 50 Shades, liked it and now want to experience it...you are a wannabe and will remain that way because of how you were introduced? We all started without experience and at some point were a wannabe...so seriously who cares if someone's introduction was 50 Shades....I mean how many teethed on Castle Realm?

Note I did read 50 Shades and found the writing very poor...other than that it was sort of like a highly sexed romance novel...(and nah I don't like those either) but its no worse than someone reading a vanilla romance novel and believing that men are seriously going to speak and act as the men in those books. Once people get to a place like this...experience a little bit they are more than likely going to get a glimpse at reality...either they are going to abandon it or burn the 50 Shades book and stick around. But seriously who cares...nothing is going to change...if you come across one of these over the top people who still assume 50 Shades is real and all Dom's make 50 gazillion dollars an hour...you do as you do now...ignore, block, delete and move on.

Oh, I most certainly would not. Yes, I've given you a glare or two over the years, but not ever because you don't identify with My sadism. Acceptance is not the same thing as identification.

I am fortunate to call you friend.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: -=Now y'all wannabes can "play like Grey"=- (11/10/2013 2:07:45 AM)

They've had these in our local sex shop for ages now. They are extremely generic and overpriced because they're cashing in on the book. I did roll my eyes when I first saw them (though I don't know why I was surprised, it's a crap shop).

But truthfully, they're nothing new. Ann Summers have been selling the same things for years just with different branding, every sex shop I've ever been in has also had at least one beginner kink kit full of silk scarves and feathers and stuff. At least this one isn't barbie pink.

It's just another 'kink lite' kit, it's not going to result in people getting scared at play parties any more than the junk they've been selling for years. This just has the added appeal of branding, which means that folks'll buy this one for their girlfriend instead of the pink one.

And I think the implication that people who buy this are naive and pussies is mean spirited. What's wrong with taking baby steps into kink? For that matter, why shouldn't those folks who find this to be their level of kink have products marketed towards them?

No one is suggesting you buy these instead of your artisan leather. You're not the target market. These kits are not going to cut into the sales of high end equipment, and most likely won't lead to many people coming to edge play parties.

I think there are many valid criticisms of 50 Shades - namely the overall message that loving someone means they will totally change who they are for you, or the shoddy writing, or the conclusion that being kinky goes along with a damaged personality - but the fact that it's given a bunch of housewives the excuse to explore kinky play shouldn't be one of them. So what if their idea of kinky seems mild to us? Their sexuality is every bit as valid as ours. The implication that they should be ridiculed because they like mild spankings and we like bullwhips reminds me of a high school clique.

Some members of the kinky community seem to have used 50 Shades as an excuse to show off how much edgier they are than the normal folks. Who fucking cares? Let them buy their feather ticklers, I hope it gives them the mind blowing sex they are aiming for.

edit for typing errors.

There have been people coming on here asking stupid questions long before 50.
I've been here since 2005 and stupidity on the boards is not new.

Who cares? It's just like the "Luv Cuffs" at any cheap shop. Hey, at any rate it let's you know who is just playing around.
