Actually America IS the best.
Fact??????????????

IMO- the US is the best.
No longer fact?????????
Make your mind up.

you can find prety much any life style here
Funnily enough you can in the UK too.

I must point out here i have a disliking for my own country and am certainly not patriotic - i despise the monarchy.
However i again point out that arrogance is not a well liked characteristic and twice of what i have read in here i have seen pure arrogance from citizens of the US.
For someone who is so naive as you are pahunkboy i would think you'd led a very sheltered life and seen very little of anything.

That's funny to me to. Because what I've noticed, was some non-US citizens bashing our policies most of which they are pointing out, the US citizens already agree need fixing. So, what's the point?  If it were turned on it's head and once a week a thread about the UK came out and we were ripping the UK, most would get tired of that as well. And considering the vast majority of collarme users are in the US, it makes logical sense you are going to get more perspectives from this angle, from flag wavers to US haters.  How many citizens of individual countries are on here outside the US. 30 UK maybe active users. How many of those are on the forums, maybe 5. How many of those comment on the US politics  a few. Compared to 100 US users most of which that don't even comment about the US, even though they live in it. And it seems a couple of the non-US posters make a habit of pointing out the bad in every thread possible. Just do a history search. Always a comment about GWB or republicans, or the generic american. It happened so much I assumed they lived here. LOL. No one cares, honestly. I'm getting tired of GWB but he'll be gone soon enough, so get over it already.  I've not noticed you do it, but some do it like it's their job on here. It's funny at first, then degrades into a fuck off attitude. That's why I don't care, because it's not done in the spirit of helping, it's just bitching directed at the US. It's  useless and non-constructive, just like someone saying the US is great, to a group that obviously won't agree. It's the same thing. It's just shit stirring.

How accurate this site is about the number of American passport holders there are is for you to decide.

http://www.gyford.com/phil/writing/2003/01/31/how_many_america.php

I've been trying to find out how many EU citizens have passports but can't but I remember reading once that 80% of EU citizens had passports but that should not come as a surprise given how small most countries are and that going on foreign holidays is popular, particularly in Northern Europe.

EnglishDomNW -> RE: What influences world opinion on the US...does it mattter? (7/9/2006 9:37:14 AM)

NeedToUseYou, how can you be genuinely surprised that people have a go at Americans?

Walk into a bar tonight.  Stand on the table and say "I'm the richest, best looking guy in here.  I'm number one.  I'm the best".

Count how many people say "Yes, you're right, you are" and weigh that figure up against the number of people who throw glasses at you.

mnottertail -> RE: What influences world opinion on the US...does it mattter? (7/9/2006 9:38:11 AM)

You know, it seems to me that it should be the soveriegn right of the US to bash other countries policies, and hep them on how to live and govern themselves,  and no one else should be able to do the same, 'cause we are the best country on earth........

LOLOLOL...Ja, needs work I know.

hrrmmmmm, well, first I'd never make that assessment about myself. On a country wide level, I think that is the perception because we have so much stuff going on around the world. But I don't recall any ad campaign directed at foreigners saying such. So, I guess the solution is to be a shithole country, then no one will care. No thanks. People can bitch all  they want, but now when I hear a foreigner speak negatively, it goes in one ear and out the other, I'm only less prone to listen not more prone. If it makes people feel better, go ahead. It will only make me think worse of the speaker.

Common you can't honestly be suprised when a person says your country has done x,y,and z wrong like a cd on repeat, that the eventual response is a fuck off (equal to The US is Great, comments). LOL.

Grab some thruppeny bits Ron, one more beer and you're gone.

Caitlyn, why is it whenever I post anything about America you seem conditioned by a knee-jerk reaction to pick up only on the points that are negative?  I mean, did I not say it was a fine place, that most people would give an organ to live in a country like that, etc?  It seems you're incredibly sensitive toward criticism of America but completely oblivious to praise.

Anyway, at your very fingertips is the world's biggest knowledge base, if you dispute anything I say, I'm sure there's a website that will confirm or deny it.  I did Google it myself but didn't find anything for

"americans never leave america"

except one website that said it was actually 90%.

Here is an honest answer, and you aren't going to like it. [;)]

I find a very high percentage of what you say about America, to be complete horse shit. Case in point ... you said that 80% of Americans have never left America. In "spirit" you think you are correct, but your thinking and research is incomplete.

The truth is, that only 22% of Americans own a passport, but if you had stopped to do even a little research you would have discovered that there is a huge list of places Americans can visit via automobile or on cruise ships without the need for a passport, like all of North America for example ... almost any major tourist area in the Western Hemisphere will allow Americans to vacation without a passport. You can visit Brazil, Argentina and most of Central America with a vacation permit, good for seven days. You can even do overnight business in Japan without a Passport.

Members of the U.S. Military don't need a passport. They can travel most places, with just their military ID card, including anywhere in the United Kingdom. Most members of missionary organizations can travel without passports, and the United States outnumbers any other country on this planet fifteen to one, in missionaries.

If you had done your research, you would have found that "passport required" travel represents a very small percentage of total travel done by Americans.

So, it's not that I only respond to the negative. I have responded to many of your positive points, like what a wonder and beautiful country you live in ... but, if you are going to debate with the varsity, perhaps you should take greater care to ensure you are accurate ... and/or stop complaining when people choose to point out that some of the points you are making, are both inaccurate, and pointless.

Apologies for the aggressive tone. Debate is a contact sport, I guess. [:D]

Absolutely, I'm no different if people criticise England (who, let's face it, gave this world everything good).

But if someone praises it, which has also happened from non-Americans here, that too would get noticed.  It's just weird as to why it's only the criticisms that Americans seem to pick up on.

EnglishDomNW -> RE: What influences world opinion on the US...does it mattter? (7/9/2006 10:00:01 AM)

LOL and right on cue, here comes Caitlyn with - yes, you guessed it - a whine about something negative I posted.  Replying to a complaint that you ignore the good things I said about America and concentrate on the bad, you shoot off again.

A quick grab off Google (selecting as truth the one web page that agreed with your argument most) and now you post as an authority and everything else is "horse shit", despite the fact five minutes ago you didn't have any answer at all?

Caitlyn.  Just because you don't NEED a passport to visit those countries you listed doesn't mean that Americans HAVE visited those countries that you listed.

I don't need a passport to visit Wales but I've never actually been.  I don't need a passport to visit Jersey but I've never been.

Your argument is, to use your own words.........horse shit.

I think because it's generally done like this

America suck for x reason (post 1)
America sucks for y reason (post 2)
America sucks for z reason (post3)
America suck for x reason (post 4)
America sucks for y reason (post 5)
America sucks for z reason (post6)

Then America sucks for x reason, but the grand canyon is nice and some of the people are ok, LOL, or some other response (post 7).

repeat, when questioned point to post seven, and say, hey I said something nice.

Either way, I don't care much, it doesn't effect my politics or views. I think it's odd that some think it might I guess. Save time, go to a movie. Net result is the same.

missturbation -> RE: What influences world opinion on the US...does it mattter? (7/9/2006 10:04:12 AM)

Hang on a minute i have never once criticised the politics of your country. I do not understand them and so would not comment on something i do not have a clue about.
I commented on the arrogant attitude i have found in most Americans but that was just my experience.
I dissed my own country and said i do not agree with the monarchy in any shape or form.
I find it interesting you choose to pick my post to air your views - is it because you know i will not fight back on a political level?

And mnottertail hun - our pubs only shut at ten on sundays and now most are 24 hour opening. London is not the best place in the U.K in my opinion but im a northerner so i would say that.

I said in the post I that you didn't do it.

here's the actual line from my post.

"I've not noticed you do it, but some do it like it's their job on here."

So what was your point in quoting my post?

caitlyn -> RE: What influences world opinion on the US...does it mattter? (7/9/2006 10:12:16 AM)

Can't admit you were wrong, can you. [;)]

The first time I got a passport, was my visit to the UK last year. Before that, I had been to: Mexico, Canada, St. Thomas, Aruba, Belize, St. Croix & Okinawa all without a passport. Get over it dude ... Americans don't need passports, to visit the places they visit the most. Those places are Canada, Mexico and the VI. When you visit the islands in the winter, half the fucking people you run in to are Americans for goodness sakes!

It's not that I'm claiming to be an expert. You just did five minutes on Google and got incomplete and innacurate information. I did twenty minutes on a University affiliated online research tool and got considerably better information.

Now, go watch soccer, and stop being a dumb fuck ... I'm going to. [:D]
