what exactly are you talking about? PW was not on set at all. had he been on set there would have been fire precautions available. there weren't as they were at a charity event. PW also wouldn't have been in the car had it been on set, it would have been stunt drivers for the high speed stuff.

Needles, on some stunts, Paul has driven in them at speed, he does race cars and, form all reports, a natural driver. But he was not driving this time, and if he were, I really doubt he would have been traveling that fast on that road going into that turn.

all the news reports ive heared (6abc cbs nbc) was they they were filming on set, hence the comment.

Read it again, Ed. Clear evidence that HE was driving like they did in the movie. Which, according to reports, he wasn't. So his only crime was filming the Fast and Furious movies AND being a passenger in a vehicle being driven by SOMEONE ELSE.

To be fair, I've seen one other accident where a car broke apart that badly. And yes, it was a combination of both speed and a downhill grade. Id still like to await an accident report, but let's say speed was a factor. It's a Porsche, not a drivers ed car. Last time I saw the inside of one, there was driver controls on only one side of the vehicle...not both. So it's the driver, not the passenger, who controls the car.

If we want to make someone's death a lesson, shouldn't it be the driver who killed both himself and his business partner/friend while making his 8 year old son watch that nightmare?

First, witnesses said that his friend was driving.

Second they were going into a turn that was posted as a 15mph turn.

Third, the car looks a lot like a crushed beer can.

Fourth, a Porsche does not fold up like that in an impact at a normal speed, say less than fifty. It is estimated that James Dean was going 75 when he hit another car head on, his car did not burst into flames.

That car had to be going at least 80 on impact, and the light pole they hit had a 45mph speed limit sign on it.

Personally, I would like to see the skid marks, that will tell a good part of the story.

I must be getting old Im feeling more sorry for the people killed and injured in the train derailment.
I get that the crash is untimely... from the pics of the scene, speed MUST have been an issue, but my pet races cars (on a track) and the thought of him being hurt is horrendous, so Im not being judgey.

The car looks like a crushed beer can because, like Oside stated it is a Porsche Carrera GT. The car has a V-10 engine crammed into the frame, 612hp, goes from 0 to 100 in less than 4 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph. There are NO german engineered safety crumple zones, airbags, seatbelts, etc that can save a life if a car designed purely for speed wrecks. People who spend half a mil on one of these things, already know this. To give you an idea of the kind of car this is, and why professional race drivers call it "difficult" to handle, it is so fast, that by the time your brain has registered you have pushed down on the accelerator pedal even the slightest, the car would be going at least 40 to 60 mph. If any "lesson" is learned here, its don't drive a 600hp supercar unless you are prepared and ready to accept death. Even Roger Rodas, an experienced driver learned that it only takes one mistake, one lapse in judgement, and a car that powerful will go out of control

They did show some skid marks on the local news here. Another report said there might have been a flat tire that caused it but I am sure it will all come out after more investigation. It is fair to say though that they were going way too fast also.

The understatement of the year from the local cops "Speed was definitely a factor in this crash". Duh, no shit Sherlock.

This car is EXTREMELY fast and Porsche's are not driver friendly. This car if the back end kicks out you add power, he might have added too much or maybe sand or gravel was on the road. A lot of cars and bikes run Azusa cyn and the people there don't like it and throw sand and gravel on the road in the curves, they have no clue as to the possible consequences.

Recently a professional racer was killed in a race in Mexico. He was on the night session and someone dug a hole in the road. It used to happen all the time when I rode bikes in the desert - people don't consider or care about the consequences. Running 80 or 90 mph in the desert you can't stop fast and sometimes can't swerve either you just try and jump it.

Porsches are notorious for massive oversteer, the rear end kicks out really easily, and with a car with 600+ HP, even more so. What is surprising to me is the friend is a professional race car driver. Despite the bullshit you see in movies, I have known a number of professional drivers, from F1 to drag racing, stock cars and so forth, guys who drive in ASC races, etc, and the funny part about them is on regular roads, they tend to be pretty cautious. I asked a friend of mine, who raced cars with 600 HP under the hood, why he was so careful driving on the road, and he said when you saw as he did how race cars, that are engineered down to the last nut, maintained by fanatics and so forth, can fail, and you think about how even the best road cars are made, you don't want to take chances.....

I am really sorry about this, from what I understand Paul Walker was a really decent joker. There was a story on Yahoo that he was in a Jewelry store where a couple was looking at engagement rings, and the girl liked a ring but it was like 10 grand, her fiancee is in the military, home after his first deployment to Iraq, so they didn't have that kind of money, and Paul Walker saw this, went to the store manager, told them to put it on his tab and not to tell them who did it, and walked out of the store......many hollywood types would do that and broadcast it, he did it because he had a heart, which is pretty rare. I feel bad for the drivers family, he had two young kids...I don't know what went through his mind, but doing what he did was stupid, I doubt very much the car had 'unintended acceleration'. He probably wanted to show off and it ended up killing them both.
