I'm used to having a real tree every year but since I moved to Baltimore and I live in a small apartment, I just bought a new fake tree. Real trees are outrageously expensive here! Close to $80 and I just can't see paying that much when no one is ever home most days since we're both at work and we come home and go to sleep and we're running around on the weekends. And now since my daughter won't be here and Master most likely will be working Christmas Eve in the evening, it's just not worth the effort for me.

Last year I bought this tiny 4 foot cheap dollar store tree. It was ugly as hell but I made it work. This year I bought a 7 foot pop up tree. I should be getting it tomorrow since I ordered it online from Brookstone. It looked pretty cool and easy.

I'm finding it hard to even get in the Christmas spirit this year.

We haven't gotten our tree yet and to be honest I am not sure I will put up a tree..I think I am getting hit with my kid not being here (went away to school this year) and looking back and remembering all the past Christmases, going with them to cut the tree and so forth. I was usually the enthusiast for getting a tree, this year I might be scrooge.....

I always have had a real tree, and others are right, one of the most important things is to keep the stand full of water (I recommend buying one with the largest reservoir you can find, the more expensive ones with the tilt base and such hold as much as a gallon). There are tricks that are supposed to keep it fresh, they sell stuff you put in the water, aspirin can help it last supposedly, but the water is a must. If the bowl gets dry, the tree will seal its trunk and won't absorb water. If that happens, use a screwdriver to punch holes in the trunk near the bottom of the trunk (as near to the very bottom where it rests in the stand), to alow water to be absorbed by the tree. The other biggie is don't leave the lights on when not at home or even when you go to bed at night, and inspect the light strings to make sure they are in great shape. If you keep it watered, and it was fresh cut, it will keep to New Years without drying out too much.

I want and NEED to find a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. If not, I'll go with the 2 ft silver tree I have. It brings back really nice, if tacky, memories from the one my Gramma had for years. Made of a light blue painted broomstick handle for the trunk and branches. Those were covered in short silver tinsel as the pine needles.

Im liking this idea:)
ALtho my daughter cam e over today and we decorated the tree and made stockings (the old ones are ripped n torn) We had fun, so Im more in the spirit than I started the day off with.
There was a picture flying about last christmas that I thought was a cool idea for people with little room for an actual tree, and I put it up on one my walls in my office as well today seeing that I spend most of my day here,
I will post spics of my tree , mine is fake, old and we mostly still over decorate it with ones that the kids made over the years. Even Grumpy the grinch(my hubby ) got involved.
Was a good day all told:)

I don't know if you have a CVS pharmacy near you, but they have a Charlie Brown tree replica. Right down to the blue blankie and the one red ornament. It's adorable. Table top size.

I'm Canadian eh! The only place I saw them last last year's was Sears. Refused to sell it to me, floor model. I very politely argued with the sales rep that is was the entire point of buying such a tree. He couldn't follow my logic.

I made this little felt tree for my toddler today, so she could have one to decorate and mess with as much as she wants. It even lights up!

It's not finished yet, needs trimming up at the edges. I'm in the process of sewing patterns onto felt stars and baubles for decoration.

Excuse the mess, I was making it at work.

I'm not having a tree - and haven't for about 6 years.

Unfortunately, the Christmas tree became a symbol for my marriage - I got to do all the work, and he got to criticize it. And since the kids are adults, I feel no responsibility to carry on the tradition. heck, I don't even decorate.

The thing is, I love Christmas. I love going to mass and celebrating the birth of Christ. I just HATE the commercialization of it all. If I still had the innocent appreciation of the rituals surrounding the day, i'd still be decorating, but , unfortunately, c'est la vie!

Actually, because of the over commercialization, I have come to appreciate more and more Thanksgiving. Weird, considering I didn't grow up with that as one of the holidays we celebrated .

I loooove lil blue xmas lights. I have boxes of them. Now to find some wall space. And of course back to the dollar store for decorations. At least Mister Man isn't a Scrooge about the holidays.

I get a real tree every year. I should pick one up this weekend. We put out trees in a tree stand that allows us to add water daily. If we find the tree still gets too dry, we just buy another.

It is hard to pass up the scent of a fresh tree!

5 ft fake tree with lights, kids have already decorated it. I picked up some stocking for the kids so they can craft them (Michael's or Hobby Lobby, I am coming!). My brother told me that baby M loves pink so I have to get pink glitter along with a hot glue gun.

Bumping because I want to see more trees.

Put ours up last night. It's a bit sparse this year because some of our decorations weren't safe to go up.

High on the list of things I don't like about living in the socal desert is that real trees just don't work well here, and they are godawful expensive.

Growing up in Oregon, we had a real tree every year we were able to have one at all. I love the smell of them, most of all. The last winter there, I payed $7 for a nice 6 foot douglas fir. Add a zero, to get what I would pay here. An artificial pays for itself the second Christmas, and can even be cheaper outright.
