I just love your tree Athena. It looks like a lot of fun.

Ours has been a wild, gaudy, and completely overdecorated thing in the last years, as the boys took over the decorating. I love it!
It will take about a day, and then the lowerd third of the tree will be all but empty, thanks to the dog and his wagging tail.

It is quite a while yet till our tree goes up. German tradition is to put it up on Cristmas eve, maybe a day or two before. Ours goes up on Christmass eve, and we do presents on the first Christmass morning (different from tradition, which would be "Bescherung", the unwrapping of presents, on Christmass eve).

I am actually looking forward to our annual tree-choosing expedition next weekend. It takes a special tree to get the seal of approval from all 5 of us.

Thank you blonde....wish it looked as good does in person. There are many clear ornaments that just do not show up as well when you take a picture of them :)

I'm used to having a real tree every year but since I moved to Baltimore and I live in a small apartment, I just bought a new fake tree. Real trees are outrageously expensive here! Close to $80 and I just can't see paying that much when no one is ever home most days since we're both at work and we come home and go to sleep and we're running around on the weekends. And now since my daughter won't be here and Master most likely will be working Christmas Eve in the evening, it's just not worth the effort for me.

Last year I bought this tiny 4 foot cheap dollar store tree. It was ugly as hell but I made it work. This year I bought a 7 foot pop up tree. I should be getting it tomorrow since I ordered it online from Brookstone. It looked pretty cool and easy.

I'm finding it hard to even get in the Christmas spirit this year.

Wow 80 dollars!! That is insane. I think average real trees here are 25 to 35 dollars up at the local store.

My tree looks nice but the bottom quarter is not decorated. My baby is crawling now. I put a couple of baby safe decorations down low so we are not constantly telling her no. I have horrible luck at uploading pictures here for some reason but I will try in a bit.

Thats an awesome tree OP

Now, since 10 years I never had a tree anymore cause it was just not on my priority list when I was living abroad (constantly rather short of cash) and since I am back home it was just not really suitable either, like this year I moved in with my partner and the current place is really too tiny to bother....but I am hopeful for next year

Before thén our trees were similar to yours OP...my parents have 2 forests themselves as well as friends of them, too and so they get their trees out of their forests...something I value these days

oh hey it actually worked! So here is our other smaller tree in the dinning area. We didn't bother decorating it though since it would only attract carpet sharks.

The shoe by the door, normally a boot, is done on the evening of the 5th. The 6th is Saint Nicholas day, and during the night he visits and fills the boots with some sweets ond/or small presents.
And yes, we do that, too.

There are no real candles on our tree, as we have children and a dog.
Real candles on a tree have become something of a rarity, and while I do miss the beauty and smell of the real deal, I do not miss the burning houses.

I must know, what's a carpet shark?

Tonight I took the little one round the neighbourhood to check out all the lights. Our neighbours really go to town here, which is exciting to me since they didn't in our old town. And then to top it off, the rotary club Santa came round, so we went out to meet him and pet Rudolf!

I'm almost done with the tree, but thought I would post this. We may have had a little too much fun. There's no real theme and the Santa house is not lit up yet.

Most of our neighborhood is like that. In fact, the whole town of Santee is pretty impressive with the Christmas lights. There's a guy down the street that has the light show to music....and now Master has a new goal for next year.
