A great man.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Nelson Mandela dies (12/5/2013 4:08:33 PM)

Like most racists that make their bones in politics, he talked a good fight until he got his moment in the sun. Then, he proved that "equality" meant "subjugation" to him.

In a way, it makes me glad that one of my personal heroes, MLK Jr., never got the chance to fall from grace.

I hope Nelson gets the afterlife rewards he deserves.

What makes you think that Mandela was a rascist?

Wow.

A quote form Nelson Mandela,

No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite

you seem to have done a lot of learning but not had much teaching

The logic in that quote is faulty. If one can learn to hate but must be taught to love, logic dictates that hate comes more naturally.

Furthermore, I reject that and your pathetically veiled attempt at calling me hateful. You don't have the first clue about me or how I live so try selling that shit to someone who owns a farm.

I call a spade a spade. I call out white racists, also. Mandela was a black supremist. While that fits in in the Pablum-puking world, that turd won't flush in my bowl.

Look at what South Africa transformed into under his leadership (and try to look through a non-jaundiced eye). It went from Apartheid to "screw whitey like he's screwed us for years". That's not "balancing the scales"; that's starting a pendulum to motion.

(and now, you're blocked, again)

yup, definitely a lot of hate.

Poor old "whitey" eh?

So no one's perfect but is South Africa worse off or better off now than it was under apartheid?

Nah DS... you're misunderstanding the quote.

quote:

Nope, Mandela wan't a black supremacist. Show a single piece of evidence from after his release that can be used to paint him as a black supremacist.

quote:

Look at what South Africa was before his leadership.

Compare his leadership with that of Mugabe.

I don't think the facts support your position.

I don't think you have any idea about Apartheid or what life was like for black people in South Africa.

I am no fan of positive discrimination but you can not just say "ok your free now so get on with it" and think everything will be fine.

Black people ( and other ethnic minorities) had nothing under apartheid, they had no money, land, property, education, nothing. To expect some kind of seamless integration with their white oppressors after all that time is not just naïve it's stupid.

You need to think about your own country ( not excluding my country obviously) and it's history with black people and decide whether history will view oppression of black people in a good light before calling people like Nelson Mandela rascists

According to someone I know who lives there it's much worse. She tells me that under apartheid they at least had basic law and order. Now she says the crime situation is horrible, some of it quite heinous. *Hectic* is what she calls it, in other words she says you have to pay attention almost everywhere so as not to become a crime victim because it's not just confined to certain neighborhoods. There are 3 races that pretty much hate each other, whites, blacks (pure African ancestry), and colored(mixed black with white or other races). According to her DaddySatyr is correct, whitey doesn't fair so well these days in South Africa. In her opinion blacks and coloreds have it worse now than under apartheid.

MsMJAY -> RE: Nelson Mandela dies (12/5/2013 7:17:29 PM)

I don't doubt that things are worse there now. You have a young government, a ruined economy, political struggles, a large group of people who have civil liberties for the first time in over a hundred years. The haves are afraid of losing what they have and the have nots are afraid they will never truly be considered equals. Its natural to see this type of instability.

The US civil war ended in 1865. 100 years later black people were still sitting in the backs of buses and restaurants, being lynched, terrorized, beaten in the streets and sprayed with water hoses. Its called Reconstruction and its what happens anytime a change in the power and political structure of a nation takes place.

Ending apartheid was still the right thing to do. And they are still better off.

tweakabelle -> RE: Nelson Mandela dies (12/5/2013 7:59:47 PM)

Thus far, this thread has been shameful.

One of the towering figures of modern history has passed away. A person recognised universally for his wisdom, his humility his compassion and most of all for his inspirational leadership and monumental achievements.

This is the person who led the fight against apartheid, who destroyed South African apartheid, who liberated his people from the slavery of white domination. And when he achieved power there was no revenge (even though it would have been so easy to justify) Instead he was magnanimous he insisted on reconciliation, on bringing the disparate sections of society together and in doing so, prevented what many feel would have been a certain bloodbath.

Mandela was a figure of the same stature as a Gandhi - a once in a lifetime leader who liberated his country and his people, leaving a legacy of democracy and peace constructed on the ruins of apartheid, one of the most evil, hateful systems of oppression ever devised.

The world is woefully impoverished by his passing

Really?
Whites were screwed when Mandela took office?
De Beers is still owned by whites.
Most of the high quality farm land is still white owned.
Most of the native population still live in abject poverty.
Almost no whites were prosecuted for atrocities committed under apartheid and any that chose to appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and confessed the crimes got complete amnesty.

So precisely how did Mandela screw whites upon taking office. In detail if you please.

She's white I presume.

Crime was always rampant in the black ghettos. Violence was common and the OSS used violence to intimidate the blacks. Blacks committed little violence against whites because a black caught in a whites area was subject to imprisonment and/or death.

I presume you're implying since she's white she must be looking at things from a racist perspective.

From the book, Into the Cannibal's Pot: Lessons for America from Post-Apartheid South Africa by Ilana Mercer,

“When South Africa was governed by a racist white minority, it was scorned by the West and treated as Saddam Hussein was, with boycotts and sanctions. Now that a racist, black-majority government controls the country; that it is as violent as Iraq, Liberia, or the Congo and rapidly becoming another Islamist-friendly, failed African state, it is the toast of the West.”

"There are more than 50 murders a day. It leads the world in child and baby rapes, to say nothing of adult rapes. The number of white farmers and their families, including children, targeted, brutally tortured and sadistically murdered on their own farms or in their own houses, some 4,000 since apartheid ended in 1994, literally making farming in South Africa the most dangerous occupation in the world. Car-jackings are a daily occurrence with drivers frequently kidnapped and murdered. Commonplace home invasions and robberies force people to live like prisoners in homes protected by walls, electric fences, trained dogs, hired guards, alarm systems, motion detectors inside and out, safe rooms and, if they’re able, weapons – although they’re illegal."

The place is a shit hole just like damn near every other country in Africa. That second paragraph is pretty much how she described it to me and as far worse after apartheid for everyone, especially blacks and those of mixed race.

This could be a description of Mexico too.
This is one thing that really disturbs me about my govt., when they get involved with third world countries.
I don't want to "help" those countries, I don't want to be "friends" with countries like that and, I don't want my govt. doing so either.
As for Mandela,...who cares about him unless you're a S. African or a self-loathing white diletante from Cambridge, Mass or Bezerkley, Calif? The kind who were wearing those flat topped "Castro hats" in 1959-60.
They "celebrate" the bad guy but they sure wouldn't want to sit down and drink with them and maybe the next day, go out and help the bad guy decapitate a few of the resistance.Whoa! They're Leftist but they're not THAT fuckin' Leftist!
And of course they are in favor of handing over U.S. Taxpayer Dollars to rat-bag countries like that because they're,..."poor."

I do a lot of work in Africa, and I can assure you that SA is in far better shape than many sub-saharan countries.

Of course there are massive problems, largely driven by the massive inequality and widespread poverty, but compared with the journeys of many African countries, SA's has been pretty smooth by all accounts.
