Wow.

So it's in the best interest of society to have women give birth and raise the child of their rapist?

You religious people have some pretty fucked up ideas sometimes.

This legislation is just cringe-worthy.

Well at least you didn't murder any viable fetuses. You did alright.

If she had an ectopic pregnancy, she's probably had an abortion. Trying to bring an ectopic pregnancy to term is an almost guaranteed death sentence for the mother, unless she miscarries.

Ya don't say?

So you think women suffering is what, funny? Cute?

You still haven't answered my question about whether you think it's okay to get an abortion in order to get cancer treatment. If you want women to be forced to wait until the situation is immediately life-threatening, as your posts thusfar seem to indicate, you're putting them in a lot more danger, and forcing them to go through a lot more heartache.

I know you think you have all the answers, that everything seems so simple and black-and-white. I used to be pro-life, so I know where you're coming from. But real life isn't as simple as that, and a lot of the things pro-life organizations tell you are lies. And the data shows that a lot of the women that get abortions are/were pro-life - for them, too, it seemed so simple and easy until they were in that situation.

Well, it isn't like the truly religious won't still be able to take their daughters and mistresses somewhere else to keep getting abortions, now, is it?

I agree the law is cringe-worthy, in fact I would probably use stronger language to describe it. Not sure how you stretched his post to imply that all religious people feel the same way about any one issue. To try and claim all religious people feel the same about something is just bullshit and only makes you look bad.

I honestly don't know that much about HIPAA, my understanding was that it was a crime for anyone in the health care industries to just hand over your medical records to someone you don't want to have them.

ICD - 9 (ICD - 10 wont be implemented till next year) codes go with every procedure or medication. How would they not find out?

You are right, it is a crime. The only time an employer will get any info from the insurance company is when a workers comp claim is involved and I can't see any scenario where abortion would be a workers comp case. Then they will get information pertaining to the case and nothing else. And the ICD codes 9 or 10 have nothing to do with HIPAA. If they do give away your information they are subject to serious fines and should be reported.

Self insured employers do get those codes. Its the employer who approves or denies a claim.

They get the codes if they are the patient or the patient signs a form allowing them the information. If they don't and they release them anyway they are in violation of HIPAA.

If they release them to whom?

Insurers get the codes to know how to pay.

If a company insures itself, exactly who do you think gets the code?

Wow... just wow.

The voters actually won one. I too am shocked.
I wonder what would have happened had dims tried to amend the original bill simply to allow insurance companies to cover termination of pregnancy caused by rape (reported at the time of the assault). But I am sure dims insisted on total defeat of he measure, as no compromise with abortion-on-demand is ever allowed.

The whole thing gives me hope, of course. Forcing anyone to pay a third party to kill a baby is just beyond barbaric.

It's not 'forcing' anything. It is paying for something...a transfer of risk as is all insurance.

60% of the Fortune 500 companies with over 1000 employees have self-funded insurance.

You do the math.

To anyone but the patient or someone the patient authorized them to release it to.

Insurers get the codes to know how to pay.

I don't think so as that would violate HIPAA

The billing department in the hospital.

certainly not. Insurers must have that information, they just cant give it out to any tom, dick, harry, kenyan or cop.

No they don't need that info, all they need to know is how much to pay.

AND TO FIND OUT IT THE PROCEDURE IS COVERED UNDER THE POLICY, AND SO ON. What percentages to pay this, and that, and what percentages to pay doctors and even the aspirin and the swabs, and the sponges. yEAH, THEY GET THAT info.

I used to be 'involved' as a consultant to United Health Care who we helped set up for HIPAA compliance, and I saw that shit. Not that I cared.

It aint no small law. All the info goes to many people, and some to some, and none to some, but Insurance, hospitals, doctors and so on, get it all pretty much, (the agents get enough to know for the days of pre-existing conditions and other insurance cutoffs to drop your ass).

the billing department checks out what the insurance will cover or not cover at the same time they check to see if you have to pay a co pay.

Yeah, no.  The insurance company is not gonna trust sanford health hospital to submit their bill reviewed by their billing department only to pay without question, the insurance company is capitalistic in nature just like the hospital and know you are out to fuck them.  they will perform their own audit and determination.

Well hopefully you will understand if I trust the teachers I have talked to who are actually working in this field over you.

Yeah, if they are teaching they aint working in the field of insurance, and capitalism itself.  Thanks though.  I having worked in HIPAA implementation, the insurance industry as a programmer of what is and aint on their computers, trust my own lying eyes, and the rules implemented in software for HIPAA compliance.

Actually only a few of the teachers in the program teach full time. The rest work full time and teach on the side. That is one of the reasons they are so good. They are doing this now and know how it actually works because they do it every day.
