Compromise is not weakness...mind you... the secret to a lasting relationship is compromise.... at some point...of course it depends on your definition of compromise... especially in a democracy

There just isn't enough money for both sides to get 90% of the spending they want, but that's what "compromise" means in Washington.

The Patriot Act is evil, cry the Dims, when W is in office.
Nary a sound from them when 0bama0 keeps it.
Barely a peep as we discover the horrid expansion of it.
That's what "compromise" is in Washington.

Need I go on?

OTOH, we have one shining example of non-compromise.
0bama0care.
And even though that's setting new standards for the running definition of fucked-up, I somehow like that one side, finally got its way. When we the people finally get our way we can kill it, chop it down, pull up the roots, and salt the ground it grew in; as opposed to "compromise" programs that linger for generations after they have failed, run their useful life, or both.

The patriot act was awful then, its awful now, and you lie when you say there is nary a sound.
However the right keep using it as their blindfold to appear more flabergasted, over something that was hated before it was popular to hate it
Fucking revisionist history BULLSHIt

Agreed.
They're just not as extensively and nakedly hypocritical about it.

I don't think I've ever expressed a negative opinion of the Patrot Act other than there should be strengthened safeguards regarding keeping recovered information private and there should be companion legislation restricting the se of recovered information to prosecution of cases of violent terrorism.
The point herein is that I have been, I think, pretty consistent.
The Dims certainly have not.

I keep forgetting... is that 'Dims' as in Arlen Specter, or 'Repukes' as in Arlen Specter?

One or the other of them voted overwhelmingly to go to war, and to let ethics complaints go with a round of applause, but damned if I can tell which one it was...

But what does any of that have to do with 2014?

Less blaming the other side and more coming up with ideas that might work.

-- An end to gerrymandering
-- A serious, bipartisan plan to deal with the fiscal impacts of entitlement programs
-- An end to time-wasting stunts, such as the repeated votes to repeal the ACA
-- Reining in assaults on privacy
-- Multiyear federal budgets
-- Performance-based pay for Congress
-- An end to using public servants as scapegoats
-- National recognition of same-sex marriage (a pipedream, I know!)

I'm sure there's a lot more, but these came to mind now.

Sure, you refer to one thing as a "pipedream," but not with this one? It would be a welcome event, though.

Maybe we include the mandatory vote in the other chamber when one chamber passes a bill, too. That way, the Senate can't simply dismiss a bill the House has passed, and the House can't simply dismiss a bill the Senate has passed. Maybe next time we have one of those bipartisan "supercommittees," there is some binding on their decisions.

They can't pass a one-year budget. How is it they're going to be able to pass multi-year budgets?!? Completely agree on reining in assaults on privacy.

quote:

-- Performance-based pay for Congress

We'd save some money if we did that. It would have to be written so that all the staff members still get paid, even if the representative didn't.

-- An end to using public servants as scapegoats

Agreed.

I think you're being a bit too negative on this one. I fully believe we'll see that in the next couple decades.

Gee,...I'll go first.
I'd like to see a LOT less lawyers and academics in my government.

Immediate withdrawal from all foreign conflicts and an immediate return of all troops to the US where they will be stationed at our borders to keep out illegals and to enforce drug and gun laws already in place.

A return to constitutional government. While I believe this will take a revolution, I pray for a bloodless one.

A repeal of Obummercare and a plethora of Libertarian candidates elected to the house and senate.

Five of the nine judges on the SC to die in a fire (Buy 'em all a plane ticket to Syria).

A new look at some old give-away programs that have run their course.

Immediate cessation of all foreign aid.

An immediate repeal of all "fucked up ( I mean "Free Trade") agreements".

America worrying about our problems before we go traipsing around the world to spread the "liberal disease" there.

I sit corrected.

Less "them"....more "us".

Since this is a wish list and not a realistic desire list, I want to be temporarily named King, with all my edicts immediately binding and supreme law.

I would first decree, a la Adam Corolla on The Man Show, that 'team' will be spelled 't-i-e-m,' so that there is an 'i' in team.

Anything after that, see my sig line.

Des....I presumed that months ago (I already own the red velvet throw over thingie)....I do have positions available, nonetheless.

I will present my first edicts to you (and others) shortly.
