Repeal of the Patriot Act.
Prosecution of Cheney and Bush.
Obamacare not repealed, but reviewed by a bipartisan committee to make the damn thing do what it's supposed to do. Along the way, a study to see why health care costs have risen and an attempt to drive them down, not simply figure out who pays for what. Also, a study of what's been tried in other countries, what worked and what didn't. You know, a rational approach.
The GOP get its act together, and quit listening to the nuts in their own party.
Fox News adopt a standard of balance and of truthfulness.
Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh to renounce their crazy views and go for thoughtfulness and truth over ratings.
Sarah Palin and Donald Trump to sink into irrelevant oblivion.
The Middle East to simmer down and quit doing self-harm. Al-Assad to get overthrown.
Speaking of which, the NK government to get overthrown.
Better relations with Israel.
The Egyptian government of Al-Sissi to ease up.
The Muslim Brotherhood to continue to be more and more irrelevant. Same for Al-Qaeda.
The Palestinians to realize that they need peace with Israel, and start going for it.
Marijuana to be decriminalized.
Canada to get less cold in the winters.
The US government to begin believing that it must serve its own citizens.
A reversal of the gerrymandering that makes Congresspeople and Senators more concerned about winning their primaries than the general elections.
An opening of dialogue between rural red areas and urban blue areas.
Good gun legislation that is effective and doesn't infringe upon the Second Amendment, which effectively keeps guns from people who shouldn't have them and keeps them in the hands of people who should.
Less income inequality and a return to power of the middle class.
Reductions in violent crime.
Reversal of the decay of Detroit. A clear blueprint about how to keep cities from deteriorating.
Obama to regain his mojo.

Steven, and do you want to pay "more" or "less" taxes in 2014?

Give our 6 month notice to WTO we are withdrawing from that robbery, and repeal GATT and NAFTA.

Implementation of the Line Item Veto via constitutional amendment.

If 2014 is anything like 2013, nothing major will get accomplished.

Given the debt level, I do not think we'll be able to avoid raising taxes in the future. We could do it now at a lower percentage or later at a higher one. But to deal with that debt the deficit has to be brought inline. While the simple solution would be to cut $1.1 trillion, that would have a very negative effect on the economy. You might say the economy right now is bad. You may trust me on nothing else, but trust me here: the effect on the economy would be easily enough to through the nation into a steep recession. Even a mere $200-300 Billion would have an adverse effect on the nation's economy.

I'm not saying I'm in favor of higher taxes. Simply stating that the economic and financial health and survival of the country is going to force this issue sooner or later. We could deal with it now and protect the slowly growing economy, or keep our collective heads buried in the sand when it becomes critical.

I've never understood the huge emphasis on how and when we pay our bills, as opposed to the spending that caused the obligation in the first place.

OK, we'll put you down for "more" then.

Are you talking to me about WTO, GATT and NAFTA, cloud?

If so....

I am for tarriffs duties and imposts, and cutting out this give our market away, and our jobs, and our treasure and allow other countries protectionism, but not us.

And more.............

That's a pretty radical idea in this day of free trade. In Baltimore, the Sparrows Point Steel Mill closed down. No one would buy it, so it's assets are being sold off piecemeal. Not only does this represent a loss of jobs, I feel it also undermines the USA's national security -- making us dependent upon imports.

If your ideas were implemented, I'd miss my cheap electronics, but the question is, would the higher consumer prices be worth it?

well, if we offset the price of labor, like we did from the founding of this country until around the middle of this century.,,,,,,,,,

You might pay a $1000 dollars for you android phone, but you would have made it for $15-$20 dollars an hour.

And you could still have your nike shoes, costing $150 bucks but $5 to make, we tack another $40 bucks in tarriff on it. they probably will eat it in price and still make over 100% on it at $150.

coffee, we dont have it here?  No tarriff.

and so on.

Start making stuff here again, some of this, most of this is national security, we better start making our electronics here, how the fuck would we fight a war with the chinese, and have them selling us chips for our defense equipment at the same time?

You've lost me. How does wanting to control spending at the time of spending, as opposed to at the time of paying for what's already been spent, make me an advocate of runaway spending? It sounds like good old common sense to me.

Well I hope that members of both parties catch a non terminal virus that causes them to become ethical, cooperative, intelligent, and understand compromise is not a bad thing.

Short of that, the capital building and white house being swallowed by a sink hole the first day congress is in session.

Perish the thought!

Because spending has nothing to do with the deficit and debt. Don't you know anything?!?

The point being I think is that just because nutsackers spend like drunken sailors, doesnt mean they are going to pay for it.

You should be careful there, keep making observations like that and people are going to think you mean liberals when you say nutsackers. We wouldn't want anyone confused.
