Singularities, Time travel, String Theory, Gravitation waves and Quantum mechanics. Excellently written book on black hole physics and written so that the lay person can understand it.

Status: offline 		If you like King, the two collaborations Straub did with him (The Talisman and Black House) would be a good place to start. His most famous horror novel is Ghost Story, but I prefer his thrillers to his supernatural stuff myself. Koko's a good place to start with those ones.

Status: offline 		Well, King has been known to use pseudonyms before now.

I think most American horror writers need to be able to do a decent King impersonation: it's like all the guys we have on this side of the pond who've based their careers on impersonating Ramsey Campbell.

Status: offline 		It was really brilliant. One of the most thought provoking books I've read in recent memory. Have gone to see Alexander speak a couple of times subsequently. Quite a woman.

Status: offline 		It finally dawned on me what a phenom Clive Barker must have been a couple of decades ago to have caught Campbell's eye at such a tender age.

This has nothing to do with impersonating either Campbell or King, but have you read any Thomas Ligotti? He's probably my current favorite American writer of weird fiction. Savage black comedy combined with genuinely creepy stories. He's what Lovecraft might have been if Lovecraft had had a sense of humor and also had been able to write engagingly.

Hope audio books count. Currently I'm listening to The Black Count by Tom Reiss. A great way to catch up on the French Revolution and plights of black and mixed-race people during that era.

Status: offline 		I really haven't had much time to read lately but I have started using audible.com. I just finished listening to King Jesus by Robert Graves but I haven't found it all that interesting. It's basically a fictional spin that Jesus is actually the long lost grandson of Herod.

My next is Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World by Liaquat Ahamed

Status: offline 		Enders Game and Speaker for the Dead. do NOT watch the movie if you've read the books, everyone i've talked to has said it was horrific, and the worst 'adaptation'

they're old faves of mine.

Status: offline 		I finished re-reading the Dresden Files series, and am impatiently waiting for the next one. Also waiting for the next Bones novel.

Right now reading Tower of Sorcery from the Belgariad to the younger boys, and re-reading Let's pretend this never happened by Jenny Lawson.

Current main read is The Affair of the Poisons: Murder, Infanticide and Satanism at the Court of Louis XIV , by Anne Sommerset. I have her other books sitting here to be read next. They were a Christmas present from the Guy, and so far I really like her style. Historical non-fiction researched very well and written engagingly.

Status: offline 		El Narco: Inside Mexico's Criminal Insurgency. -Pretty good, not much interest in the subject matter, but I'm going there for work in a month and so have done a blitz of a few books and a half dozen films just to pick up a little vibe. 'Should have probably just done more Spanish lesson on Youtube.

It's astonishing how little Mexico projects itself into US media, given how intertwined we are. Fans of social realist, slice of life foreign films should check out El Norte; a 70's film, but completely undated. Sin Nombre is a druggy chase film that puts the likes of Tarentino to shame. 'Wish there were as many good Mex books as there are Mex films. Maybe I'll find a few more over there.

I read the fat Bruce Springsteen bio on a long haul flight. It turns out he is and always was a narcissistic, passive aggressive user-asshole.

But really, how could he not be?

It's easy to overlook now just what a breath of fresh air The Books Of Blood were when they first appeared. The fact that Barker's approach was completely different to Campbell and the other two big UK horror writers of the mid '80s (the criminally underrated James Herbert and the deeply pants Shaun Hutson) probably didn't hurt any either.

Is Ligotti the guy who does rather Lovecrafty stuff like The Ceremonies, or am i thinking of somebody else?
