We haven't had one of these threads for a while, but they're always interesting. So what are you reading? Or what did you just finish? Was it good? What do you have your eyes on next? I've just started The Waterproof Bible (Andrew Kaufman) and An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth which is the autobiography of Chris Hadfield, the Canadian Astronaut. Both too early to decide what I think. I've just finished The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, which I can't recommend, but since it's young adult I doubt many of you would be considering it anyway.

I'm going through Clive Barker's old short stories from the 80s (the Book of Blood series), reading Isaiah Berlin's biography of Marx and thoroughly enjoying Sound in Z, a history of experimental music in the Soviet Union in the early 20th century.

I am about to read several books of Jason Vale now (one at a time, though)....3 of them (cause two of them are an old version and one got dirty, so I know I will re-order them again) I am currently laminating so that I will be able to read them whilst riding the bike in the gym...its simply about not eating the wrong foods and so on....I like his quirky attitude in them [:D]

I just started Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Jonathan Safran Foer). I've had it for a few months, but was in an indulgent, trashy "zombie apocolypse" phase. Lol. It has passed. Great start. Tough subject.

Just finished "Disturbing the Universe" by Freeman Dyson. Now re-reading "Small is Beautiful" by E F Schumacher. Next up: re-reading "Gaia" by James Lovelock, and "The Dam Busters" by Paul Brickhill.

Wading through a pretty bad slasher films guide (Slasher Movies by Peter Normanton). Maybe I'm a purist, but if I buy a book that's supposed to be a listing of slasher films, I get a bit narked when half the fucking book is zombie flicks, and most of the rest is supernatural horror. Apparently Theatre Of Blood isn't a slasher film, but Hellraiser is. WTF? Avoid this fucker like the plague. The last couple of books I actually enjoyed were Leisureguy's wet shaving guide* (very informative), and Paul Parson's The Science Of Doctor Who (a fun pop science book, especially if you're a Whovian). (For my face*. Get your minds out of the gutter, people...)

I'm a little bit embarrassed, but since I never was one to jump on a bandwagon the first time it came around.....I spent the fall months reading the entire Harry Potter series. I never had before and never saw a movie. I loved them! [&o] Right now I'm reading a biography of Patsy Cline, because I might be getting the chance to play her in a local theatre production in the coming year [:)]

Books v. Cigarettes by George Orwell. It's a collection of his essays, including some biographical stuff about how much he hated school.

I just finished one of the best books I've ever read. The Oppression of Black People, The Crimes of This System and the Revolution We Need “The young man was shot 41 times while reaching for his wallet”…“the 13-year-old was shot dead in mid-afternoon when police mistook his toy gun for a pistol”… “the unarmed young man, shot by police 50 times, died on the morning of his wedding day”… “the young woman, unconscious from having suffered a seizure, was shot 12 times by police standing around her locked car”… “the victim, arrested for disorderly conduct, was tortured and raped with a stick in the back of the station-house by the arresting officers.” Does it surprise you to know that in each of the above cases the victim was Black?

I just started rereading A Game of Thrones. I'm also making my way through Agnes Grey, albeit slowly, since I use the Kindle app on my phone to read while I'm standing in line or sitting in a waiting room somewhere. Those are the only times I read ebooks but it's more convenient than toting a book around in my purse.

The Timekeeper by Mitch Albom The Watson Go to Birmingham- 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis and The adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle A sound of Thunder and other stories by Ray Bradbury All are very good reads.

I'm reading my books, over and over and over again... friggin editing. Sob... I really did sob when I wrote the fourth book of the series and because of what my characters were going through. Freaked my tail end out that I could cry over my own damn characters. [:D] I just found an author, that I wasn't sure about, but after reading the book, felt like I had just had an experience. Maybe because he was so trippy in how he wrote, how the characters came to life and became so real and because I laughed so hard. At first I thought... omg... this will be crap. It so wasn't! lol The Very Swift Witches by Wayne Hicks Now when I have a moment, I am looking through his other books that are written in a totally different style. I think I am a fan.

Given the title, and having some awareness of some of those cases, it would surpise me greatly if they were not.

I'm lining up my next few reads....need a new author to fall in love with. Some of my favorites current authors.. Barbara Kingsolver. Charles Martin. Anne River Siddons. Stephen King. Dan Brown. Rosamunde Pilcher. Any suggestions of a "must read"?!!
