It seems there is a trend of "What do you find annoying in X?" threads recently, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon. :)

What kinds of annoyances do you have with people in general?

For me, it's someone that I don't know -- usually a waitress who is a decade or more younger than me -- calling me pet names like "honey," "sweetie," "sugar," or similar things. I can sit at a table of 10 other people, and I'm the ONLY one that gets called those pet names. I know they don't mean anything bad by it, but it still makes me grit my teeth.

I dont tolerate stupidity very well. Thanks to a phlebotomist today, I have a bruise the size of a small saucer on my right arm not to mention the swelling. Damn bitch poked the needle through the vein.

Stupid people drive me nuts.

Oddly it's not the ones who know they are dumb and are willing to be contradicted, it's the ones who are _almost_ smart but think they actually are smart.

MsLadySue -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:21:33 PM)

The ones who use "ya know" and "like" at the end of every sentence or as a filler until they get out the rest of the words.

bamabbwsub -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:24:34 PM)

He he. I work with a guy who says, "Ya know what I mean" at the end of nearly every sentence.

I feel like looking at him and saying, "No, I don't. Why don't you explain it to me one more time?" [:)]

There's a few things:

1) My name is Michael. It's what my mother wanted people to call me. When I introduce myself as "Michael _ _ _ _ _ _ _" and the person shaking my hand says: "Mike" in a tone of voice that doesn't sound like they're asking a question but sounds like they're "correcting" me.

2) Back in the late 80s-early 90s when servers first started asking "Do you want change?" and I had handed them a fifty dollar bill on a $24.00 check. It's almost as if they're trying to "strong-arm" a tip out of me.

3) My first-ever trip (early 2000s) to a very popular Australian-themed restaurant, I was out with my lady and we were asked if we'd ever been there, before. When we said we hadn't, the server sat down at our table and went through the menu as if we were unable to read.

(A special side note: that server - and since then, many others - that insist upon calling me and my female companions, "guys".)

4) I drive in the middle lane. I obey the speed limit within 10 MPH on the interstate and religiously in residential neighborhoods (there's children, living there). Drivers that are doing 20-25 miles per hour over the speed limit and getting pissed at me (in the middle lane) for not being willing to risk a traffic ticket for their convenience.

5) Religious people, coming to my door to save my soul who will not take a polite "No, thank you" and force me to elevate to a "Look; I worship multiple gods and practice black magic. Please go away!"

I'm sure I'll think of more.

#5 made me literally laugh out loud! Very funny...Mike. [8D]

DominantWoman65 -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:34:05 PM)

One of my biggest annoyances are people who enter or exit out of the wrong door, people who do not say "thank you" when you open the door for them or "excuse me" when they walk in fronts of you or accidentally bump into you , and then there is always that one person in a busy store who thinks their life and schedule is busier and more important than everyone else's in line and walks up to the counter in front of everyone and pretends he/she doesn't notice because they are on the phone.

smileforme50 -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:35:31 PM)

People who can't (or won't?) speak correct grammatical English when they are talking to someone besides their friends and family really drive me crazy. There are some women that I work with who use "ain't", double negatives, and don't know how to correctly conjugate the verb "to be". They sound like complete idiots.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:36:31 PM)

Let's not forget the cab-driver who asks you if you know the way to your destination.............either he/she doesn't know their job or you are about to be taken on an unguided tour of the lesser known suburbs of wherever you happen to be while the meter glows red-hot.
I drove a cab in London for a while and after that, whenever I got into a cab as a passenger and was asked that question, I would reply in a thick german accent and see where they took me. Then when we eventually arrived I would direct them to the nearest police station and say ( in a broad east-end accent) "Let's go and talk to the desk sergeant about this, shall we ?"

bamabbwsub -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:37:37 PM)

People who don't use punctuation in an email or text, leading to confusion in the conversation.

a side note to your side note: i went there my last trip to the states (about 6 yrs ago). had to stop in to see what all the fuss was. looked at the menu and saw so little that was Australian i laughed. when the waiter came over, i introduced myself as recently out from aus, and said that i'm not sure where they got the aussie theme from, as the most important aussie meal item wasn't even on there. he asked what, and i said lamb! as far as i remember, the menu was drawn from some fantasy Australian idea of what we eat.

the burger didn't have beetroot in it, no fried egg on it. and bacon?? not generally - usually just in Mcdonalds.
where was the prawns? the barrumundi and other aussie catches - orange roughie, salt and pepper squid?
i've never seen that onion explosion thing here, ever. to be fair i haven't been ALL over aus, but i've never seen it where i HAVE been.

i haven't ever met an aussie who drinks foster!

and i don't think they had pavlova's with kiwifruit and strawberries and bananas either. the desserts aren't near what we'd normally have. not even a macadamia in sight.

ahem. yeah. i think that's one of my general annoyances. mis-truth in advertising and assuming gullibility - a bit of a given with american's i'm sorry to say.

the 'word' "pronunciate"... it just reminds of this time with this dom where he kept hitting me and telling me to pronunciate and i kept whispering "pronounce or enunciate" over and over.... ended with a broken nose but at least a week later i noticed his grammar had improved. that is until....well, we were out shoveling snow and i was talking to myself and he said "what! enunciate bitch" and i looked at him all surprised like and said "oh wow! good job you got it right!" quite loudly.... he then reverted to pronunciate *sigh*

i do agree with you there! i always ask for them to cook it without. pickled beetroot goes in a relish dish or as a side, NOT on the burger. fried egg i can handle, pineapple i can't, either.

and omg, the ketchup (tomato sauce/or 'dead horse') on mashed potatoes and fried eggs! NOoOoOoOoO[:o]

Abusers who masquerade as Doms. So sorry to hear about what he did to you, directive. Especially since you were right.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:48:08 PM)

That restaurant chain also has something called, "Chocolate Thunder From Down Under." What in other restaurants would be called "Chocolate Volcano Cake" or something else.

Last I heard "Chocolate Thunder" was Aussie for "Diarrhea." The "From Down Under" part is just icing on the cake. The pun (on my part) is totally intentional.

KMsAngel -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:52:25 PM)

LOL, i couldn't say that for sure. but to 'chunder' is to throw up spectacularly, so you could very well be right. it's essentially a brownie, right? and brownies, while we thoroughly enjoy them down here, is generally an american dessert. pavs, sponge cakes, sticky date pudding, golden syrup dumplings. those are familiar desserts if we're talking truly aussie. i was very dissapointed there were no bush foods or spices in there either.

ETA: (urban dictionary)

thunder down under
This term refers to the rumbling you get in your belly after eating bad food. If you feel the "thunder down under" you should immediatly find a toilet as it usually results in an involantary explosive release of the bowls.

ARIES83 -> RE: General Annoyances? (1/26/2014 7:54:32 PM)

What's all this then!
Are kangaroos on the menu? Hahaha
You can get kangaroo at the supermarket over here, but it's kinda a novelty.
If you want a traditional Aussie meal, get a meat pie... Some chips... And squirt some tomato sauce over it.
[:D]

I wish I was kidding... But that's pretty much it. =\
