ORIGINAL: bignipples2share I never even considered that some places might not allow you to have potted plants on the patios. Thank you, I would never have known this. I'm fortunate to have some acerage, yet still I plant on a screened in patio. I don't want to be bothered with the bug issue. I have enough issues with keeping them off my onamentals, I'm not feeding them anything else LOL. My point in saying, 'try growing your own food', was an attept to allow the food addiction to be consentrated on, just in a healthier direction. It still has it's basic focus on food. That focus has just been skewed a bit. The growing of it, when is the best time to eat it for full flavor, learning how to freeze it, or can it. Finding healthier recipes on the net that taste great and still allow for the natural flavors to come through. Sometimes, the kids will get into it too, being able to watch something grow and knowing they actually get to eat it. Yes, if a person can't do this, then farmers markets are great. ~Big I understand.. I mean I grew up out in the country..and never realized the limits that some wonderful apt communities put on the residents, until I lived in one. I think it would be a wonderful thing to be able to do. If I have kids someday, I want them raised eating the fresh veggies out of the garden..it would not only start them out in a healthy way, but give us an activity to do together (instead of video games). I know that's a big issue with kids now, I mean I am 30 and even when I was a kid.. we didn't sit inside all day..we were outside playing until our parents made us come in. Now it's hard to get some kids to even leave the house.. it's hot, I'm tired, blah, blah. It worries me a lot that we are raising a generation with this high of obesity rate. It makes my heart ache when I see an obese child.. just knowing the pain and health issues they will be facing. I agree with the woman above... the reason I am fat is I would pick the (insert yummy fatty food) over the carrot. It's a choice that we all made every day and until we start making the better choices..nothing will change. It takes a lot to put down and get rid of any addiction. I know that I have gotten rid of many..but the food one is my demon. I do know though also, when I put my mind to it and am ready to do it... nothing will stop the action of eating better and getting healthy. Respectfully, Andrea
