They apparently don't see the irony

Link didn't work so I posted the whole story from Bizpac
Found the same story at Daily caller

The NAACP is leading a “Mass Moral March” in the North Carolina capital on Saturday to protest recent Republican-led legislation, including state election law changes requiring identification to vote.

Ironically, the group’s list of “Important Do’s and Don’ts for Marchers” includes bringing a photo ID.

“DO bring photo identification (drivers’ license, passport or other valid photo id) with you and keep it on your person at all times,” the document says.

“This year’s annual people’s assembly will be held in the wake of a powerful push back to the immoral and unconstitutional policies supported and passed by Gov. Pat McCrory, Speaker Thom Tillis, Senate Leader Phil Berger, Budget Director Art Pope and other extremists in the North Carolina General Assembly during the 2013 Session,” the HKonJ People’s Assembly Coalition’s website says.

The website offers several downloadable documents, including the “Moral March Map,” bus registration, permission and medical forms and the “Do’s and Don’ts” list.

The march has drawn its fair share of critics.

“The so-called moral march on Raleigh is anything but moral,” Tami Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the North Carolina Values Coalition, said in a news release. “It is spearheaded by groups that support abortion and homosexual marriage.”

North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Claude Pope and other GOP leaders called the march divisive, saying state NAACP leader has become the de facto head of the North Carolina Democratic Party, according to the News & Observer.

“What we are saying today is that civil discourse needs to return,” Pope told the News & Observer. “[The] ‘moral march’ is nothing more than a partisan political rally endorsed by the Democratic Party and fringe far-left groups like MoveOn.org and Planned Parenthood, which have recruited liberal activists from other states to attend [Saturday’s march].”

Gee when I registered to vote, I had forgotten my wallet, but they registered me. Now when I go vote, I have to show my ID so I can vote. That law is pretty new, 1965 I think.

You cant register for any kind of assistance without valid ID, and that law goes back to the 70's.

Under the law passed by Bush, you have to have three forms of ID, one a photo ID, to get a driver's license or state ID.

So would someone please explain to me what the fuck is wrong with requiring a valid ID to register to vote? You need an ID to get a job (federal law for god knows how long, I know I needed a valid ID to get a job as a teenager,) get state and federal assistance, and god knows how many other programs.

It dont have to be a driver's license, but state or federally issued ID.

First the GOP screams voter fraud, then the Dems scream voter fraud, and god knows that both parties have pulled some really neat tricks with elections over the years, and now someone is having a shit fit over something that would prevent voter fraud?

Now I dare you people tell me that humanity is not getting more fucking stupid with each generation.

The fastest growing republican demographic are poor ,rural whites.....

Who will also suffer disproportionately from gop voter suppression .....

Now THAT....is what irony means.....

You`re welcome for the proper definition...[;)]

The question is: if voting fraud has never been an actual problem in fact --- why these new laws to prevent it -- and why only from Republicans (who also try to restrict early voting and voting both hours.)

Maybe many of the fraudulent voters are dems.
Maybe The Dems want to appear to be protecting the poor and are willing to put up with some fraud to get
that leverage.
And maybe it only gets covered when a Republican does it.
Each of the things you mentioned are easy marks for fraud.
The real question here is, if demanding ID's is so evil why is the NAACP doing it?

The NAACP isn't demanding anything. Nowhere in the story does it say IDs are a requirement for marching or that they'll be checked.

The NAACP, rather, is suggesting that marchers come prepared with IDs--always handy to have in a city, particularly a strange one.

Huh? How's this connected to the march?

EdBowie -> RE: NAACP protesting voter ID requires picture ID (2/8/2014 10:49:30 PM)

Who said they were?

You take a story about planning a street action where the advice is to have ID on you (in case of arrest, medical issues, or separation from the group occurs), and you try to spin that into the same thing as voter disenfranchisement?

Bullshit.

They suggest this because in the US it is not uncommon for protestors to get arrested. (reference Moral Mondays and Occupy protests.) If you get arrested and cannot provide an ID to prove who you are the police can hold you until you produce an ID or they can verify your identity another way.

There are no maybes in this equation, so try again. The facts are clear and bright line. I know it is hard to do, but follow the facts.

Where exactly in the USA has voting fraud actually been a problem?

Who has been charged with it and where?

Who would commit voter fraud?

What is the real reason individuals don't commit voter fraud? (You'll have to put your thinking cap on for this one.)

----------

So, given the answers to all of the above, what's the real reason behind all these republican initiatives in Texas, NC, and other such red states?

Just by way of example several poll workers in Ohio were convicted of voting several times for Obama.

If someone does not protest showing a picture ID to get beer, tobacco, or to use a credit card why would
they object to showing one to vote.

never mind, lol

Owner59 -> RE: NAACP protesting voter ID requires picture ID (2/9/2014 10:44:29 AM)

Where in the constitution is there a right to buy cigs or booze.....[8|]

In the end,we`ll only need to work a bit harder to get the voters conservatives are targeting, registered...

Which likely will motivate said voters to vote and not for the POS republicans trying to suppress their votes....

kdsub -> RE: NAACP protesting voter ID requires picture ID (2/9/2014 11:28:14 AM)

Maybe ...just maybe... voting laws are so easy to beat that fraud is not caught.

I look at it this way... to me it is not a law requiring a picture ID...but how the law is implemented that could be a problem for the poor and disabled. If procedures are in place to make registration for a picture id reasonable then I don't see a big problem.

Voting is a privilege in my view and not an absolute right. Voters must be willing to experience some inconvenience to assure a fair and accurate election process. However I do feel it is incumbent on the licensing entity to accommodate and aid those with time and transportation problems to get their ID.

Do gun purchases require photo IDs?

cloudboy -> RE: NAACP protesting voter ID requires picture ID (2/9/2014 11:42:39 AM)

He claims facts but doesn't have any to support the initiatives in NC, TX, and PA.

And he skated over the question of why anyone would commit voter fraud when:

(1) It's a felony and;

(2) It's meaningless. One vote doesn't push the dial in an election at all.

Why risk a felony conviction for a single vote?

I would be willing to bet they do.

FFS, I had to have a photo ID to get a job! And, sure, a job isn't a Constitutional right, but the only reason the do it is to make sure you have proof of identity.

Not surprising, the point of a photo ID to vote, is also for identity proof. Imagine that.

I'd imagine because single votes are becoming more significant with voter turnouts falling all the time.
