JstAnotherSub -> Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 11:45:22 AM)

Seriously?

People never cease to amaze me on how far they will stretch in order to be offended.

Moonhead -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 11:50:10 AM)

Have any bikers whined about this, or is it just Mike Myer's retarded Fetchit wannabe?

I don't think it was a stretch. I think the videographer saw what he wanted to see, which wasn't reality. If the sign had said, "No coloreds allowed," then, their taking offense would have been justified.

It's not entirely unimaginable that somebody might be genuinely offended. Not just someone, say, who'd never heard of biker 'colours' (that term is used here in the UK, too), but someone who isn't up with the latest racially-sensitive lingo or who thought that the bar owner wasn't up with it. 'Coloured people' was once OK; now, many years later, 'people of colour' is OK but 'coloured people' very much isn't in most circles. 'Is "colours" the new term for racial minority people?'

TheHeretic -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 12:11:36 PM)

I bet the owner is just too niggardly to get a sign that won't confuse the ignorant.

The term "colors" isn't a new term by any stretch.

imdb.com page for the 1988 movie "Colors" starring Robert Duvall and Sean Penn.

So, for at least 25 years, the term "colors" has referred to gang colors and insignia, as well as it's more traditional meanings.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 12:59:16 PM)

I have heard colors all my life and it has always been regarding bikers. I cannot imagine seeing that sign and thinking anything except that.

Here`s another good one...

bigoted bar owner bans gays, blacks, disabled or those on welfare....[8|]

It took me exactly 0.000000087453 nanoseconds to realize that, having only seen the sign, not even reading the story, they meant gang colors.

Then I read the story and realized they meant gang colors.

I'm offended that anyone would see anything other than that the sign meant they meant gang colors.

Now, if they said "No Swedes Allowed"....I'd have to concur. (Everyone knows they're not as smart as Norwegians, and explaining dumb Swede jokes to those folks gets entirely tiresome).

That's horrible, but not even in the same ballpark as the OP. IMHO of course.

That dude is a douchebag, the one in the OP is trying to stop shit from starting. "No colors" is not that unusual at a bar.

No "gays, blacks, disabled or those on welfare" is a horses ass of another color.

No, I'm sure it's not a new term. The real question is, though, how many people know about its use re biker gangs?

TieMeInKnottss -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 3:33:10 PM)

I am sorry but I live in the SUBURBS of DC & Balto and immediately knew what this meant. Most inner-city schools across the country have dress codes that include "no colors"...especially Crips and Bloods colors. This has been part of urban lingo for probably 30 years....and if you don't live anywhere near an urban area...watch "The Wire", "The Shield", NYPD Blue, Law and Order...20/20, Nightline, 60 Minutes...read Time, Newsweek....all have, over 30 years, had stories about people killed for inadvertently or intentionally wearing the wrong color in the wrong area!!

PeonForHer -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 3:37:57 PM)

I was thinking of people like my mum, my dad . . . many young kids I've come across who know all about 'hip hop', 'house' and a ton of other music-related subcultures that I know nothing about . . . .

People can be astonishingly ignorant about lots of things that other people take absolutely for granted. Me, I know what 'colours' means because I have a brother who used to be a biker. But I wouldn't mind betting that my bro's daughter knows nothing at all about it.

You don't have people who are ignorant of stuff in the USA?

igor2003 -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 4:02:42 PM)

FR

I've been aware of the term "colors" meaning gang/club insignias since the late 60s, and I'm guessing the term goes back at least to the 50s or even 40s. But I'd be willing to wager a fair sum of money that if I ask my mother (in her early 80s) what "biker colors" means she will probably come up with something about the pretty colors that motorcycles are painted or something of that nature.

PeonForHer -> RE: Well, I am fucking offended! (2/9/2014 4:22:35 PM)

My mum would be similar. She'd probably think in terms of different biker gangs wearing different coloured rosettes in their lapels.

Here in SoCal, where we enjoy bike weather most of the year, it's common to hear, "this is a no colors event" in the radio ads for car/bike shows and rallies. It's also on the flyers that get posted all over the place for charity rides.

anddd I bet I can guess who they voted for too!

PS. wonder If your mum an dad are savy enough to post video from a phone? point being the person who started this wasn't some 80 yr old backwater retard who thinks phones still need to be CRANKED
