I have way too much time on my hands. And I live far out in the woods so I only go to town about once a week. Plus I have a limited income.

I wouldn't mind finding something for extra income but it's not totally necessary. More on finding something to kill some time.

What would you guys do?

I have a lot of time.

24 hours every day.

And I'm doing what I'd do (because if I didn't, I wouldn't be...and then...I couldn't....even if I wanted to).

Try using the woodland to make things.
Even small stuff like wooden ornaments - learn to whittle.
Start a small nature garden.
Maybe grow some veggies.

I don't work so I have 24 hours a day, every day, and I don't have time to get bored.
I don't even get time to tend my own garden.
I wish I lived out in the woods - I'd have a field day!

If I had that much time I would find someone to keep me tied up and torment me for a good portion of that time

~FRing it~

Needle crafting is my favorite way to pass the time. I've been counted cross stitching for over 10 years now and love it. The kit of a big project can last me for months. Initial cost can be fairly expensive ($40 for a kit from my favorite collection), but it lasts quite awhile and I've got something pretty cool when Im done.

My next hobby really should be to learn matting and framing because I've got a shit ton of finished projects that really need to be framed.

I also have a lot of time. I do the things that give me joy. What brings you joy? Also, a class or two with coursera wouldn't be bad while you figure it out.

Quilting, gardening, reading, needlepoint, knitting - should I go on? I have so many hobbies that I can't wait til retirement so I have time to dedicate to them.

If you have enough land you could open a nudest resort... No need for anything special... just mark the boundaries..stock the fridge with soda and beer and charge each $250 for three months ...or $40 a weekend.

Let me look at this....

Land check
remote area check
various species of cactus check
wild hogs check
coyotes check
plant life with thorns check
rattle snakes check

How about nudist survival training center, with liability waiver?

Well I have thought of opening a brothel. There are some pretty twisted big shots in this little town. I'd love to own a few of them. Or maybe a poker den.

I will make a trip to find a Hobby Lobby. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at painting again.

Or opening a dog/cat hotel. I truly hate people who abandon their animals in the woods. At least give them a fighting chance and drop them in a subdivision.

Check out www.etsy.com Tens (or is it Hundreds) of Thousands of sellers offering (mostly) handcrafted goods a la' eBay.  Find something that "turns your crank" and get started. Painting might not be the thing that sells easily. Cooking skills?  Old-fashioned jams / jellies using wild .... whatever.  Maybe beauty care from native aloe.  Cactus jelly? Smoked rattler? Novelty item... I still have (20+ years later) "Killer Bee Honey." Label says $9.99 - so that tells you about novelty pricing b/c 20 years ago, that was NOT the price of a jar of honey.

Use etsy for not only ideas, but pricing and level of competion - I do NOT think my VERY vanilla - but totally hand-made cards - will ever move there.  WAY too many people are selling that kind of thing.

You have an interest in helping animals.

Could you contact your local rescue center and volunteer to foster?
Make sure you select one that will cover expenses.

What interests you?
What things have you always wanted to try?

Pursue those things, even if they seem silly.

I would love to foster animals but I don't have fencing. I know I can't afford it but maybe I can find someone to sponser me. Good thought.

I know I am going to try my hand at baking. Someone brought me some homemade bread and it was awesome! I'm going to be looking at recipes this weekend.

I bake and make cheese.
I also knit.
I excercise.

All of them require a little extra income, but not a ton.
Good luck with baking! Show us what you create in the recipe section (I recommend Oside's bread in the bread thread over there as a jumping off point)!

I did see Oside's bread, which looked awesome. That will probably be my first try. I looked up dutch ovens as I had no clue what that was. It looks like a cast iron spaghetti pot.

And the buttermilk cheese biscuits. yummm

www.kingarthurflour.com

LOADS of recipes.
You usually don't need THEIR flower to make them all :) Enjoy.
My goal this year is to bake something new every week.

I bake in the summer as part of my profession- I've really gotten to love it, even made bagels this week. I hope you really enjoy it when you do decide to dip your feet in :)

First of all, congratulations haha... That sounds like my Retirement plan. Living in the woods with heaps of time on my hands!
Only thing stopping me from doing that now is I'd prefer to do that with a house and land around me, rather than living "Bigfoot style", so it will be a while yet.

In my case, my retirement plans are... Tending and expanding my gardens. I'd probably have assorted building projects as well.
There would be small scale hobby farm type animals to look after, like chickens and a few goats etc...
I like the idea of custom making my own clothes, though I'd probably need to do a course first. (they don't really make dress shirts without that stupid collar...)
Cooking! Making preserves. Floating around in my pool, drink in hand.
Writing. Reading! And building up a library of interesting books. Listening to music. Entertaining friends at the Chateau Aries.

That's all coming off the top of my head atm unfortunately... The weight of suburbia is crushing my creativity.
