Sassafras is almost impossible to find any more. Not to mention huckleberry seems to be dying out. Both of those are transition plants that were once growing on rural roadsides and along power line right of way cuts. I think sassafras and huckleberry have died out since instead of road crews cutting brush back from the roadside they use herbicides. (BTW, the plant they call huckleberry in the Pacific Northwest isn't even the same genus as a huckleberry) I'd pay a decent price for some decent sassafras root or some huckleberry jelly. And "file powder" used in cajun cooking is a half and half mixture of thyme and sassafras leaves. This Sassafras? Sassafras is like a weed in Massachusetts - have you looked deeper in your woods?
