Get a metal detector and look for lost treasures. Do some nature photography. It will keep you busy and give lots of exercise.

Yoga, meditate, walk, garden, cook, read, learn a new cuisine, learn how to carve flowers and such from veggies.

If you have too much shade to garden, clear trees. That'll keep ya busy
I rent, and am fortunate to have a landlord who lets me do whatever I want to the gardens. (And whatever I want to do everywhere, as long as I pay for it.)

I get most of my books electronically from several library systems, which carry them in Kindle and epub versions.

Cooking from scratch takes up a lot of time, more for certain cuisines like Thai that use a lot of ingredients.

I don't have the same kind of time that I used to, though I've had a bit more since tk got sick.

Want to kill a tremendous amount of hours? Get yourself a Warcrack (sorry, that's World of Warcraft) account. It's not good for you on any level. Your ass will probably get broader and you'll get accustomed to sitting in your chair, but it will kill a lot of time.

You didn't mention where you live back in the woods but, depending on region, there are things to generate a little cash from "back in the woods".

Certain bracket fungi have commercial value. Some for food and some for other uses. Do some research on what lives in your area, gather some on a walk, and sell on eBay. If you have a lot of dead oak in your woods you could culture up some shitake mushrooms too.

Ginseng grows wild in the Southeastern U.S. The old joke about a car up on blocks in the back yard actually sometimes had a use as a solar oven for drying herbs and ginseng. "wild Sang" used to bring a premium price.

A friend of mine gathers deadfall, carves the wood into walking sticks, and sells them at festivals. His granddaughter has gotten very good at knocking down bird's nests with a slingshot to recover feathers for sale to fly fishermen. (after chicks have left, btw)

Do you garden?

Sassafras is almost impossible to find any more. Not to mention huckleberry seems to be dying out. Both of those are transition plants that were once growing on rural roadsides and along power line right of way cuts. I think sassafras and huckleberry have died out since instead of road crews cutting brush back from the roadside they use herbicides. (BTW, the plant they call huckleberry in the Pacific Northwest isn't even the same genus as a huckleberry)
I'd pay a decent price for some decent sassafras root or some huckleberry jelly. And "file powder" used in cajun cooking is a half and half mixture of thyme and sassafras leaves.

Ha... Warcrack. I downloaded it when I got my new computer, to see how well it would run it...
Unfortunately it runs it a little too well...

Well I have thought of opening a brothel. There are some pretty twisted big shots in this little town. I'd love to own a few of them. Or maybe a poker den.

I will make a trip to find a Hobby Lobby. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at painting again.

Or opening a dog/cat hotel. I truly hate people who abandon their animals in the woods. At least give them a fighting chance and drop them in a subdivision.

Love the irony.

Going to Hobby Lobby to purchase necessary items to open a whorehouse.

I have way too much time on my hands. And I live far out in the woods so I only go to town about once a week. Plus I have a limited income.

I wouldn't mind finding something for extra income but it's not totally necessary. More on finding something to kill some time.

What would you guys do?

Hike, meditate, pray, read a book, watch a movie, invite friends over, go online and read about all kinds of interesting stuff and talk to people, go for a bike ride, get a hobby that costs very little, go for a walk, drive into town and enjoy the sites and sounds, sleep (the best one of all imo).

When one is faced with possibly the loss of time, value the time you have now. Should be plenty the occupy someone unless you have limited interests

sexyred, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy,

Life can give us all a few curve balls. I think of the lady here that lost her husband in an auto accident in December. It was heartbreaking to read what she wrote and I hope she is doing well, as I have not seen her posting.

But the fact is is that all any of us have is right this minute at this exact time. That's all we have. And I'm not trying to downplay what you are going through, not at all. But you are alive and life is precious at this moment.

Wishing you peace and strength.

annie

Yes, I feel horribly for Celeste. I hope she is doing well.

I just meant that there is always something to do, if you have time. And not to worry if you have too much time.

Well, with all my spare time, I continue to work on my plans to eliminate the threat posed by cats and their alien overlords, streamline my plans to take over the world, and then the galaxy, and take Kera and Blu for walks.

If this place in the woods was in Colorado or Washington, I would have a number of little garden plots to tend.

If I had months of time...

Sit by the railroad tracks and take thousands of photos, pick out the best, print a few dozen of each and sell them on the weekends at railfan swaps & shows for $1 to $5 each.

I crochet and read...and now that NFL is over with, was watching the Sochi Games. Ordering some plants on Friday if I don't have to do some lumbar epidurals. Tease my daughter by paying her cell phone at 6:30 Friday morning (her company text her when payment is made).

If Mom is sleeping on Sundays, I watch Great Performances at the Met. I just finished watching the Russian opera "The Nose".

Mom and I are going to try organic gardening this year. I need to sweet talk my brother and his eldest daughter to bring the tiller over so I can get a spot worked up for a garden. we do have a small patch of dewberries that my SIL loves to pick for her jellies. If I had my way, I would have some dwarf fruit trees on the farm (just over 5 acres).
