Aylee -> Dhimmi status is back in style (2/28/2014 9:18:50 AM)

Everything old is new again.

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-London/2014/02/27/Syrian-Christians-Forced-Under-Pain-of-Death-to-Sign-Treaty-Submitting-to-Islam

quote:

SYRIAN CHRISTIANS FORCED UNDER PAIN OF DEATH TO SIGN TREATY SUBMITTING TO ISLAM

Held at gunpoint by an al-Qaeda offshoot in the northern Syrian town of Raqa, up to 20 regional Christian leaders on Sunday were forced to publicly chose between converting to Islam, signing an Islamist document formally submitting themselves and their community to servile, or 'dhimmi' status or face death by public decapitation.
News of the "accord" was heralded through numerous Islamist and jihadi websites as a great victory for the Umma and setback for "infidels" and "unbelievers."
According to classic Islamic law, Christians and Jews living under Muslim sovereignty must pay a tax known as jizya in return for the Muslim ruler's protection, known as dhimma.
In exchange for their lives, the Christian leaders were forced to agree to pay the infamous "jizya" or head tax twice a year for the 'privilege' of living under Islamist supremacy.
They were never to renovate or expand any of their churches or schools or cemeteries; never to pray loud enough - either inside or outside - that any Muslim might hear; never to permit the display of crosses or any other Christian religious items in public; never to engage in any Christian religious ceremony outdoors; never to take any steps to prevent or discourage other Christians from convert to Islam nor to speak ill of them and never to speak ill of any Muslim - all under pain of death.
The names of the leaders who signed the document were blacked out.

What are the odds this (extortion) will spread?

However persecution of non-Muslims in middle eastern countries is a fact, even in those countries we consider to be our allies.
Just take a look at the US government report.

I dont think the idea that there is a problem between muslims and christians is at issue.

Breitbart is not where one goes to get the actual story.

Personally, all religions are the refuge of the feebleminded, they need to do each other in, they are wasting our oxygen.

bachus -> RE: Dhimmi status is back in style (2/28/2014 2:15:28 PM)

I would say there is some good in religion, the problem with most religions is that their followers interpret it in a way that seems to mean lets kill everyone who is different. Is that really the fault of religion or is it that some use religion for their own means.

Religion in itself is not bad.

That was not the point I was making, and the fact that Muslims extremists are killing other Muslims does not change the fact that non-Muslims are persecuted. I also never stated that only Christians were persecuted. You are assuming that I am christian , I might very well be Jewish or Buddhist, or I might very well be agnostic.
You statement in fact reveals more about your own views than it does about mine.

Not aimed at you DS, just the sources quoted.

FFS thats missing the point. This is just one extreme militant terrorist group in one city, hardly the whole Muslim population. People writing these alarmist stories need to get a grip.

So, it's okay?

The furor caused in the US when there was resistance to building a mosque across from 9/11 Ground Zero was about one city, wasn't it? It wasn't even that Islamists weren't able to worship in public, out loud, or to have signs of their religion on display. Yet, there was quite an uproar over the resistance, wasn't there?

Call a spade a spade.

mnottertail -> RE: Dhimmi status is back in style (2/28/2014 3:07:20 PM)

As I said, the religion fighting religion is not a one way street.

It's not the same scenario, but it doesn't have to be. It was still religious discrimination and intolerance. Muslims had places to pray in NY, already. This wouldn't have been the first mosque.

Lucylastic -> RE: Dhimmi status is back in style (3/1/2014 6:35:39 AM)

religious discrimination and intolerence
where have I heard thios before...
oh the birth control mandate and gay marriage...

Lucylastic -> RE: Dhimmi status is back in style (3/1/2014 8:26:44 AM)

I dont use the word nazi unless its been used in a conversation..in fact in 8 years, Ive used the nazi word 15 times.....
however,
call it as you see it...i couldnt care less.
you dont see discrimination and intolerance????, I feel sorry for you..maybe because its not against a creed, but freedom FROM religion.
blinker calibration fluid is on aisle seven

Drawing a parallel between the wholesale slaughter of everyone who believes in a different religion, including even a different interpretation of Islam, and our political disputes over birth control and gay marriage suggests to me a person in desperate need of "calibration fluid" for something other than his or her eyes.
