It's so humiliating and embarrassing. If people don't believe in the oppression of blacks by USA system, I hope they get searched just because of their race. Then they would understand how humiliating it is. I don't understand why the above link doesn't work. FYI Overall, blacks and Hispanics were no more likely than whites to steal merchandise. However, when race and gender were examined by subcategory, Hispanic females stole the most, shoplifting at more than seven times the rate of white females ~Source K.

Bigger question is Why and if there is anything that can be done to prevent such actions at the root, instead of enforced security. There is a reason for everything in this world, a cause and effect. A lot of our justice system focuses on the effects and doles out punishment based on them, instead of looking at the cause and trying to prevent future actions of the likes. If it's economic in nature, then it's clear there is lacking economic opportunity in certain areas and incentives need to be taken to improve that. But then again, there's too much money in private prisons, and that would never happen...

I've been stopped, questioned and briefly detained when travelling through an upscale neighborhood. I'm white so that doesn't count.

No but I'm talking about objective large scale trends, you probably wouldn't even register on it, or if you did you'd be an outlier. Not that I mean to be offensive or anything [:D]

The only prob is that it happened several times over the years. As for me being an outlier....damn right.[8D] My point is that I wasn't detained for being white. I was detained for being.....poor..and therefore an easy target for the Gestap....errr I mean cops.

My brother is white and when he first moved to his town (before he got all the scary tattoos) got hassled by the cops so many times that my mother had to speak to the chief of police. I'm white and when I was a teenager, a clerk in a shoe store would not let me try on a pair of boots. Perhaps I looked poor, or like a shoplifter, whatever that looks like, but clearly black was not part of the criteria for this clerk.

People do have a desire to feel safe in their neighborhoods from suspicious people, vehicles and behaviors. Those people that reside there pay taxes. The taxes pay to hire and maintain a police force. The police force keeps an eye out for suspicious looking individuals, vehicles and behaviors. Those are checked and if things seem to be ok and in order, the officer lets them go. For Example.... If you or others feel the police officer took action due to your race, most states if not all have some mechanism set up to report such actions to be investigated. Any police station worth its weight in gold does NOT wish to lose the respect of the community.

There is an on going argument over here about "stop and search" laws, which seem to involve a lot of black people being " stopped and searched" especially in big cities. Don't tell me that similar discussions don't take place over there
