OH GOODIE a Thread on my Favorite Whipping boy Joel Osteen.

Osteen is nothing more than a used car dealer. He wants to sell you this BS that if you become a Christian that you will become wealthy, happy, healthy and have beautiful models fawning over you like a beer commercial.

BULLSHIT!

There is nothing in the Bible that promises you any of that. Jesus said "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" John 10:10 It doesn't say that you will be more and it doesn't say that you will be rich it simply says that you might have life.

If you look at it Jesus came to do what, free us from sin and the law. God Promised us a savior in Genesis 3:15 "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." (first time that any concept of a savior is mentioned in the bible)

I dare anyone to find a passage in the bible that says "If you sign up to be a christian that you are going to be rich, well like and have wonderful happy relationships with the male or female of your choice"

God/Jesus/The Holy Ghost and The Bible are not a beer commercial. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 but does that say anything about money? Prosperity? Beer Commercial models??

I refer you to
John 3:16
John 1:1-5
2 Chronicles 7:14
Osteen doesn't speak for God, he uses the name of God to bring glory to himself "And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward." Matthew 6:5

Ok, this thread is starting to remind me of Reverend Ike.

http://www.revike.org/whois.asp

Reverend Ike is straightforward and even takes Paypal if you want to buy his prayer cloth and ensure your prosperity.

Reverent Ike once had a tele-evangelical show that was carried in this area at one time. My mother hated that I would watch it... I thought it was good for beaucoup belly laughs. You can become an expert at "thinkanomics" too.

He's still around? I used to watch him for laughs way back in the 80's. He's a buffoon.

Alternatively people may just be taking issue with the prosperity gospel.

Someone did.

Funny stuff when you think about it. Not only do they take collections or have collection boxes at the church, which some say they don't do... they have those boxes insured. Including the online donations and that was breached, but no worries... the church will get the money back.

I do think the collection box is a better way to go than taking a collection during the service. Still, can't get over the insurance though.

I can think of a couple scriptures that kind of address this, just like the prosperity trip. In the old testament and once in the new it talks of getting ten fold back... but it also talks about not giving, expecting... like expecting to give and get back something. It says to give with one hand not letting the other hand know. It talks of the rich having a hard time getting into heaven because it is like a camel going through the eye of a needle. It talks of giving up your riches to follow Christ... why? Because riches make you so dependent upon riches and take your eyes off the glory... and you cleave unto those riches to your eternal detriment.

If all that accepted Christ/God... were to be rich... why was Paul scolding a church for not sending assistance to another church? If all were to be well, why did Timothy have a stomach ailment that the healing ministry couldn't help with and he was told to take wine for his stomach? Why did they leave a disciple in a city, ill, when they went to another city?

Why does it speak of preparing a way for the light to shine, but not prepare for the future, but to depend on God?

Just what all is Joel Osteens ministry doing besides recent city clean ups? I'd say the fruit is paid for, tithed to and wonder why so much is given... therefore much will be expected. I'm not seeing the fruit other than it lining pockets of those spreading some news... and I am not sure it is THE NEWS.

I've known lots of nice guys... can't say if being a nice guy was actually the fruit I'd be looking for.

Just my take on it all.
