I saw this and my eyes immediately rolled......

“You, whose feet barely lift off the ground as you trudge around the track. You, who keeps to the outside lane, footslogging in the wrong direction. You, who stops for water breaks every lap, and who would probably stop twice a lap if there were bleachers on both sides. You, whose gaze drops to your feet every time we pass. You, whose sweat drenches your body after you leave, completing only a single, 20-minute mile…”

“There’s something you should know: You fucking rock.

“Every shallow step you take, you carry the weight of more than two of me, clinging to your bones, begging to be shaken off.

“Each lap you run, you’re paying off the debt of another midnight snack, another dessert, another beer..

“It’s 20 degrees outside, but you haven’t let that stop your regimen.

“This isn’t your first day out here, and it certainly won’t be your last. You’ve started a journey that lasts a lifetime, and you’ve started it at least 12 days before your New Year’s resolution kicks in.

“You run without music, and I can only imagine the mantras running through your mind as you heave your ever-shrinking mass around the next lap. Let’s go, feet. Shut up, legs. F**k off, fat.

“If you’d only look up from your feet the next time we pass, you’d see my gaze has no condescension in it.

“I have nothing but respect for you. You’ve got this.”

This is the kind of 'fat' thread we should all be seeing!

Awesome message.

That story reminds me of the time I was climbing the hill near my house. I've puffed up that hill 5 times a week for the last 21 years. I did it when I was overweight, underweight, injured, well, angry, happy, grieving, exultant...I do it like clockwork just like brushing my teeth.

On this particular day, Jack LaLanne (who lived in my town before he passed) was hiking down as I went up. I'm only 5'4", and he was even shorter than me. He was in his late 80s at the time. We'd never met, but he patted my shoulder as we passed on the trail, smiled brightly and told me to keep up the good work. It meant the world to me.

I read this elsewhere...after we get my hip and back figured out, I am try walking again...outside. I can't even wash dishes or rake leaves with my back hurting. I have to seat in the chair or go put the back brace on to make the pain stop.

Today, the ball comes out...for the second time. Strengthening exercises. perhaps some crunches if not curses.

Na, we know that overweight people are morally deficient and totally incapable of any self restraint.

He was a great guy, and always generous with his time when complete strangers walked up to him in restaurants and asked him for a photo op (he would also tipple from his hip flask when his wife went to the bathroom). He was an inspiration to millions as the first 'in-home' TV fitness instructor; they would tune in to his show every morning to exercise with Jack!

I know that was a totally "sarcastic comment on jockstrap mentality", so I'm not complaining.... but it does bring up a thought I've always had about all of this. Being a "fatty" and knowing a lot of other "fatties" I have come to view obesity in the same light as alcohol and drug addiction....with a bit a twist.

For some reason that I don't understand, people are more sympathetic when a drug addict or alcoholic "falls off the wagon". We've all seen it over and over again. Very few alcoholics and drug addicts are EVER able to swear off their "poison" cold turkey and never touch it again. For most drug addicts and alcoholics, they have a lot of "false starts" where they maybe be clean and sober for a few months, but at some point they falter. Then even if they are clean and sober for a very long time, it is still a continuous struggle for them that they need to fight every single day.

But when it comes to people who are overweight, they aren't given the same amount of understanding when they end up gaining the weight back. And I don't understand that because it is basically the same thing as a drug or alcohol problem....except for one issue. People CAN live without drugs and alcohol. They CAN never touch those substances again....as a matter of fact, that is what is encouraged. It is almost impossible for someone who has a drinking problem to simply "cut back" and just have an occasional drink. But you can't do that with food. As humans, we NEED to eat and comsume calories of protein, carbohydrates and fat in order to survive. But this is why a lot of people who are desperate to lose weight starve themselves. Because it is a hell of a lot easier for them to say "no" to ALL food then it is to say "no" to only certain foods. Imagine an alcoholic being told he MUST drink one beer a day, but he can't have any more than that....and he can't have anything except beer. How long would he seriously stay on the wagon?

It's basically the same thing with someone who is overweight.

I'm not. I am actually looking for funding for TweekerStock, and I figure if the raging alcoholics get close enough to the bonfire, they'll spontaneously combust.
