TreSwank -> BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 7:57:18 PM)

Ever since joining CollarMe, I've noticed an overabundance of shitty poetry and bad song lyrics posted next to member pics on their profiles.  I know that, subjectively, alot of these crappy poems/lyrics, may have some personal significance in the individual's life, but can't they see that their poetry stinks?  I can't begin to tell you how many profiles I've flat out stopped reading altogether because of shit poetry that sounds like it came straight out of the notebook of a "tortured", 14-year old girl, who thinks that her high-school "existential conflicts" and observations on sensuality, love, and death weren't trite and maudlin. Does anyone else out there get the same sort of gag-reflex reaction when they see BAD ONLINE POETRY?

Morpheus07 -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 8:18:19 PM)

Poetry and song lyrics mean nothing to me and I cannot tell good from bad. They all seem like 14yo angst to me, either male of female.

irishbynature -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 8:21:55 PM)

Hum....all poetry is in the "eye of the beholder"...it's written as an expression of his/herself and not for purposes of literary criticism on CM. I respect anyone's writing, esp. if  they are brave enough to share it openly without fear of judgement.[:)]

gypsyssoul -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 8:31:47 PM)

quote:

but can't they see that their poetry stinks

the smart thing here would be
for me to shut up .. and go to my corner

but no ..........
ok ...........
my question to you . .. TreSwank ..
who are you to judge ... bad or good ?
what one likes the other might not
why music itself is so broad .......

just gonna quote ...... and go to my corner
" Judge NOT .. least thee be judged"

subjected2006 -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 8:36:50 PM)

thanks Irish..it's wonderful to be free to post feelings that are in the form of poetry,even if  (and sometimes most especially if) there are some who would rather critique it instead of just passing by what they dont like.being irish you will understand that i think.
half irish here...

enigmabrat -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:02:21 PM)

I worked hard on the poetry I put in my profile all the words come from my heart and i think I write well... this OP hurts me deeply as to put down my poetry is to put down me... You have some nurve have you ever heart if you have nothing nice to say say nothing at all How can you judge something so harshly something that comes from the heart as poetry does... maybe its because you cant write any yourself

-da enigma-

TreSwank -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:02:45 PM)

    Who am I to judge?  I'm somebody who understands that the LAST THING that anyone wants to see when reading a profile is.......
                    Shrouded by darkness,
                    My life an eternal enigma,
                    I crawl into my master's arms,
                    (Etc., more shitty generic lines)

     I'm not passing a judgment on anybody's moral fiber or worth here.....I'm just saying that 99.99999999999999999999999999999% of poetry (or "deep" song lyrics) posted on CollarMe seem about as appealing as Japenese ritual suicide or getting your face smacked with a red-hot waffle iron.

enigmabrat -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:05:06 PM)

You say that as if its a fact!!!! instead of the fact that it is only your opinion who are you to tell everyone what it is they want to see

TreSwank -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:12:29 PM)

TreSwank isn't trying to tell anyone what to think- he's simply an apologist of good taste.

enigmabrat -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:15:52 PM)

good tast???? what makes you think your tast is good???

TreSwank -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:24:03 PM)

Although there are subjective nuances of good taste when it comes to alot of things, people generally tend to agree that, for instance, Doestoevsky was a brilliant writer, even if said individual wasn't fond of  Crime and Punishment, The Possessed, or The Brothers Karamozov.  Thus, despite coming from a broad spectrum of sexual orientation, race, creed, and socio-economic background, any sound-minded CollarMe will reach the conclusion that most online poetry bites the big one.

purelea2003 -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:29:46 PM)

lol - I write bad poetry and enjoy it greatly - you can feel free to witness it here. The point of it is simply self expression. Don't read what you don't enjoy.

enigmabrat -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 9:39:27 PM)

GGGRRRRRRR

litleone8620 -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 10:04:03 PM)

I read your entire thread (all 11 posts of it), and i agree wholeheartedly with you.   Though you're going to find bad poetry everywhere you go. There's just no escaping it.

True, any art form, whether it's painting, writing, or music, is a form of expression, that doesn't mean it's good. And it doesn't mean that everyone will want to gather around and read it, look at it, or hear it.

I just want to congratulate anyone who is brave enough to put their poetry on their profile. And doesn't care what people think.

Edited to add: I agree with your Doestoevsky example. Not a fan of his work, but i can recognize a brilliant writer when i see one, and he is definitely it.

I also wanted to say i thoroughly enjoyed your profile. Very funny.

doll -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 11:03:50 PM)

I for one don't have a problem with anyone's poetry on their profile...I think I even put one of my poem's in my journal, but I don't need a HNG to come on here and tell me it is bad...it is published so it obviously isn't that bad.

It is just like music...just because you may like country (for example, not saying you do) doesn't mean that I want to hear the whining about getting your woman taken from you in a country club, your dog stolen or why your daddy don't love mama no more....the point is...everyone has different tastes, it is rude of you to come on here and berate other people's way of expression.

BitaTruble -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 11:23:50 PM)

Personally, I absolutely adore writing bad poetry.

A Little Ditty
There is nothing that's quite a fascination
Like erotic asphyxiation.
Cut the flow of air you breathe
And watch the brain waves duck and weave.
The eyes bulge out as vessels burst
Ah, what a way to quench my thirst!

::chuckles::

Celeste - who thought it was only fair to torture the poppet a bit for being so nasty and judgmental - I could write this shit all day long.

TreSwank -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 11:28:17 PM)

Rude?  Of course.........but when everyone else chooses to follow a strict, no balls, live and let live policy, TreSwank has no scruples with calling a stinker like he sees it.  I can't believe that so many intelligent people can all be under the mass delusion that they are collective poet laureates.  Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen - Treswank is the axeman!

txpet -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/7/2006 11:50:16 PM)

my poetry is how i communicate the feelings that i have a hard time admitting to .. it is not meant to be good or bad, it is meant to be free expression. It is a gift to Master and whether it is good or not makes it no less of a gift ... like a picture drawn by a child.

What i find annoying is people who refers to themselves by name in the third person.

TreSwank -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/8/2006 12:21:51 AM)

"What i find annoying is people who refer to themselves by name in the third person."

   Jesus Christ........with clever folks like that replying to my threads, TreSwank ought to just throw in the towel right now.

doll -> RE: BAD ONLINE POETRY (7/8/2006 12:26:59 AM)

Wtf does treswank even mean???  I have to agree it is very annoying...surely you are not that conceited.
