At the moment I'll set aside the hypothesis that it was off the coast of Greece. A few years ago I watched a quite interesting TV show in which they put forth the theory that every 15,000 years or so the Earth's crust shifts. On top of liquid the ice mass at the poles causes a centrifugal, or centripetal force which causes this, then the process starts over, with the map of the world basically set sideways. I am not putting this forth as my own theory, but I am saying that I think it is possible. Among a bunch of tertiary evidence they have two solid pieces of evidence: 1. As early as the 1500s they had an accurate map of Antarctica's land mass. It's accuracy has been proven by modern methods, sonar etc., but when the map was drawn no such tools existed. It was said that even in that century the origin of the map was unknown, and it was said to be very old. Maps were mainly made for mariners, so even if some genius did find a way to map the land under the ice, why bother ? You can no more sail through ice than you can land. 2. Lodestones. Generally when they are formed they take on the magnetic field of the Earth. They have however found lodestones with a different magnetic orientation. How else is this possible ? The show was an hour I believe and they went on about how many of history's mysteries are explainable with their theory. They did make alot of sense, but the two pieces of evidence cited above are what convinced me of the possibility. I said of the possibility, I am not convinced it is true and I don't think there will ever be enough evidence found in my lifetime to really prove it. I think is it possible, and maybe even likely, but we can't be sure. In the absence of friction, once the movement starts there is nothing stopping the crust from rotating a full 90 degrees, Which means that Antarctica could have been at the equator at one time. I am sure such a thing does not happen overnight, but the fact that there is a discrepancy between true and magnetic north could indicate that the process has already started. That is, if the theory is true. It certainly gave me something to ponder. T
