shy... my favorite episode of the 10th Doctor (David Tennant - YUM) is Blink. If you watch that one, and are not both terrified by stone angels AND hopelessly intrigued, I shall eat one of the dust kitties that perpetually reproduce under my sofa. On camera, for you.

ETA SYL!! *tacklegropes*

is Blink not the BEST/SCARIEST DT episode????

Without disagreeing, as I saw a David Tennent episode first, starring Freema Agyman, and was sold, I'd point at the way the series builds from the earlier work. And, truthfully, the production values kept getting better, for 50 years. It might be disappointing to watch the show in random order. While everyone has their ways, I found it best to go back, start at the beginning and take each step in turn. It felt more like a journey, that way.

As to just which story I liked best, I'd have to say about half of them. Don't make me choose.

I love doctor who
I love torchwood :( wish they would do another series but hey ho

Im looking forward to the new series, and if they dont mention capaldi's face looking very similiar to the guy in fires of Pompeii, I have to admit im gonna be a little bit gutted/annoyed.

FF, in my quest to convert non-Whovians to dedicated Whovians, I have found that suggesting a specific episode (regardless of its place in the wibbly wobbly timey wimey-line) has been the best approach. My go to episode is 'Blink' for those who have never seen the series. I will also reference The Empty Child, frequently. Since the majority of those who have NEVER seen it at all (and are vague at best about the premise - and those folks are most often younger than I am by 10+ yrs), introducing them to the more recent series has been the most beneficial :)

ETA: Silence In The Library is another favorite referral :)

I'm sorry that Chris didn't make an appearance for the 50th.

FTR: I would like to make it known that SoulAlloy has become a CYBERMAN. Apparently, Soul's mission is to upgrade us all by pointing out Doctor Who: Adventures in SPace and Time (something I have been trying to avoid in order that I not spend even MORE time on the friggin computer...).

I am doomed.

Doctor Who?
Never heard of it.

Oh, wait, never mind. That's the show that I have every episode of (except the missing ones.) :-)

There are 97 missing episodes (some were found in 2011) rather than a half dozen, although the audio tracks still survive.

I met Peter Davison at a con last year. Very friendly chap.

Random Trivia: Peter Davison played the 5th Doctor. The 10th Doctor was played by David Tennant and he was in an episode called "The Doctor's Daughter." The Doctor's daughter was played by actress Georgia Moffett. She married David Tennant. Georgia's father, Peter Moffett, is better known by his stage name - Peter Davison. So the Doctor's daughter is married to The Doctor.

Some say The Doctor borrowed the TARDIS, some say he stole it. Others (including the TARDIS itself) claim that the TARDIS stole The Doctor.

Speaking of favorite episodes: It's hard to pick one. "Blink", "Silence in The Library/Forest of the Dead" and "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" have been mentioned. One of my favorite scenes though is from "Human Nature/The Family of Blood ."

I give you: The Fury of the Timelord. He can be a cold-hearted bastard sometimes.

BTW: The main character is called The Doctor. Not Doctor Who, not The Dr., not Doc. - The Doctor. "The" Is always capitalized. The Doctor.

Malcolm :) Great to see you!! And if I have erred in the proper way to express The Doctor on this thread, I apologize. I am thrilled to see a Doctor Who thread and my fingers often do not keep up with my thoughts (and why the hell is the shift key over where my arthritic fingers dread to go???)

And am I the only one that shuddered when there was the announcement that signs of water on Mars was announced?

(yes, I know; for you non-Whovians that are reading this thread - and we ALL know you're there!!!... water had not been *found* on Mars. simply water ice on the surface at the northern pole).

There's only one good episode and it's called.... um.... Doctor Who.
Every single last one of them.
All masterpieces in their time - including the scabby cheap visual effects.
I think I can count on one hand the number of episodes I missed in my lifetime.

I loved the daleks. They gotta be the cutest alien out there!
The cybermen scared the shit outta me.
Then there was that funny thing in the underground that looked like a loo brush on wheels.
And the antics of K9 was hilarious!!

Roll on the next series. Can't wait.

Two words:

Tom Baker.

Seconded.

Thirded.

Two more words:

David Tennant.

#justsayin

Tennant was by far the best Doctor since Tom Baker. He really was just about perfect in the role. The only other living actor I'd like to see take a turn would be Hugh Laurie but he has apparently refused.
