shy... my favorite episode of the 10th Doctor (David Tennant - YUM) is Blink. If you watch that one, and are not both terrified by stone angels AND hopelessly intrigued, I shall eat one of the dust kitties that perpetually reproduce under my sofa. On camera, for you.

ETA SYL!! *tacklegropes*

is Blink not the BEST/SCARIEST DT episode????

<3 Tennant *sigh*
I love doctor who
I love torchwood :( wish they would do another series but hey ho

Im looking forward to the new series, and if they dont mention capaldi's face looking very similiar to the guy in fires of Pompeii, I have to admit im gonna be a little bit gutted/annoyed.

Why? They never mentioned Amy looking familiar and she was in The Fires of Pompeii.

Two words:

Tom Baker.

Seconded.

Thirded.

Two more words:

David Tennant.

Tennant was by far the best Doctor since Tom Baker. He really was just about perfect in the role. The only other living actor I'd like to see take a turn would be Hugh Laurie but he has apparently refused.

I always thought Hugh Laurie would be great in the role as well.
To be honest, Benedict Cumberbatch would be perfect as well.

Alan Rickman would make a great Doctor, and I'm not even a fan...

I want David Tennant back, I had such a crush on him!!! Dr Who should be somebody you actually can imagine shagging...

He is a very accomplished actor outside of Doctor Who. Of the top of my head:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Barty Crouch Jr.)
Casanova (BBC Miniseries.)
Blackpool (BBC series, a musical.)
Broadchurch (BBC series)
Fright Night (horror movie, 2011)

I have no doubt he's been in a lot of other things.

I urge you to watch him in Hamlet. OMG....absolutely wonderful! I think it's my second all time favorite version.

And Galactica was cooler than Serenity. Sorry, she had a shit-ton of guns and frickin' space fighters. Serenity had a single stinkin' 20mm cannon on her fo'csle.

Serenity had no guns at all. She was a cargo ship. In fact it was pointed out in the very first episode. If you want to talk about Firefly or BSG that's probably another thread. I will point you towards a Tom Smith song to tide you over until you make the new thread: I'm On Firefly (skip the first minute)

I forgot about Hamlet. That was BRILLIANT! Even if you ignore the incredible acting by both David Tennant and Patrick Stewart it's got BOTH THE DOCTOR AND THE CAPTAIN OF THE USS ENTERPRISE IN THE SAME SHOW!

I have to admit I did like Tom Baker the best out of all the doctors. My 2nd favorite was Sylvester McCoy. I liked the story lines with Sylvester McCoy as they hinted to a lot of his past and what happened on Gallifrey.

Good looking guy with a bit of an accent does it for me. I did have a crush on Sean Connery until I heard some guy claiming he looks like him and said guy looks more like Fat Bastard from Austin Powers... Sean and big tits, just doesn't work for me....

Edited to fix Mr Tennant's pic

Wow, they had a Slovene in Austin Powers! <giggle>

One thing that seems to be missed here, in comparing the classic Who with the 2005 reboot, is the change in target audience.

The old series was a low budget kid's show rather like a lot of the after school shows. Episodes from Monday through Thursday with a catch-up re-show on Saturday. The 2005 reboot was a series for the whole family targeted for prime time Saturday night. And, the lovely Torchwood series was an adults version for late night. The after school slot was filled by "Sarah Jane Adventures" and worth watching in itself.

Elizabeth Sladen is sorely missed. The series they tried to replace Sarah Jane Adventures with, Wizards vs Aliens, is just stupid and has died I think.

While I like Dr Who, I have always had a problem with arch enemies that cant go up a flight of stairs.

That was covered in the books and in the reboot shows.. the lift jets just take way too much power to be used regularly. <grin>

On a more practical note; it took affordable CGI instead of a short SFX guy on a tricycle in a Styrofoam shell.

jlf1961 - they can now.

In the 60s it was because of budget limitation. Actually, they were pretty wimpy in the beginning. The got progressively better at killing things.

Of course, them being so badass allows things like this to happen: The Bad Wolf

Umm - these guys are so evil that they manipulate situations to be on level ground when it all goes down.

Except in the reboot they fly all the time. In the battle with the Cybermen for Earth there are whole squadrons zooming around over London.

The Daleks are not in those boxes because they are cool, or whatever. Those are life support systems.

The Dalek race is a degenerate remnant of the species Davros was produced by (in some horrible radiation inspired biological disaster). The mutant madman Davros created the Daleks by cutting the useless bits off of the few survivors of his own race to breed a new creature. The primary characteristic of the Dalek is, it's crippled. Outside their metal boxes, they are nearly powerless. Inside the box, they have access to superior technology. An eyepiece to find you with, a P.A. to demand your immediate surrender, a weapon, in case you don't surrender, and something to shove you around with if you do.

If you recall, the Daleks were first encountered while still confined to one city by the limitations of their metal boxes. They were just getting started. Naturally, as time went on they became more capable. Recall please just how much time we are talking about. Basically, all of it.

Soooo... what you're saying is, this rash of FinDom's we've been experiencing is a Dalek invasion. It's all coming together now.
