The subject: A cutting.

I've done cuttings before. I don't think I've felt the same way.

Why?

I could blather on about loving him. The first submissive male that I was actually "in love" with. I know it's new territory for Me.

If I came to you and asked...should I mark him? No really I love him, so should I do it? What would you say to me? Love is a great thing but it takes time to know for a fact that it is in fact Love. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of marking people and I normally do it by hand with my fingernails (the boys call them war wounds) but it isn't something I do because I believe I am in love. I have to know for a fact that what we are both feeling is years, is truth, is always going to be there. I don't want to be the annoying wet blanket here, LP, but step back for a second and think about it. What advice would you give to someone else, someone new, that said they wanted to do this? In the end you are the one that will decide, and that is all cool and wonderful, but before you decide think long and hard about it. Is this forever, is it real, is it something you truly believe is worth marking another person over? *Mommy mode off, twisted bitch mode back on* If you do it....carve something pretty and bring back pictures.

If you asked Me honestly, I'd say reach out for the brass ring. It might be the only chance you ever get.

What advice would I give? I would say "get an education" first. I've done that. It's not a frivolous whim.

I know it is My decision. If it wasn't, it wouldn't trouble Me.

Might it have something to do with moving? Is he going with you? If not, maybe it is comforting for you to know he has something permanent to remember you by. Perhaps you might be feeling somewhat territorial. Only you can know your motivations.

Years ago, I hand-cut a sextant in sterling silver and made it into a ring. It was my totem; my personal mark. It was all about direction and finding the way. Unfortunately, in the heat of the 'so in love' moment, I gave it to the wrong guy. Now I'm really sorry I did, and I miss that talisman every single day.

I'm good with "if you have to ask if it's a good idea, then it's probably not".
Just because that's the way I am.

I am not good with permanent marks or scars. I don't have any tattoos (went in for one years ago, chickened out due to the permanent nature, came out with a tongue piercing instead). At that point, any tattoo I would have gotten would have had no meaning, no reason, no story or memory behind it. However, if I love someone a lot, I can tell myself all the good reasons for a permanent mark and won't have to try to convince myself. That permanent mark becomes meaningful and is the reason I'd be okay with it.
