This thread reminds of the viral email that goes around every year about the "Politically Correct" Christmas, no, Holiday Party. Here's a link in case you've never read it: http://giggleon.com/politically-correct-holiday-party/ After reading all the responses, it does sound to me like these particular Muslims are being a little douchey about the whole thing and the company is doing the best it can to accomodate everybody as much as possible. Maybe they are douchey, or maybe they've been bullied in the past and this is their way of retaliating? Can't really know for sure without hearing their side of the story. If they do file a lawsuit for discrimination, which they could do, it would cost the company a lot of money to defend, whether or not it's a valid lawsuit. Personally, I worked for a large company that employed people from all over the world, and we had a lot of Muslims. Almost 100% of them were great people, and I got to be good friends with many of them. My department, that was maybe 10% Muslim (?), had large potluck lunches all the time, and none of them ever boycotted. They just quietly and politely avoided anything with pork. And thinking back, they did drink alcohol. But like in the Jewish faith, and other faiths, they have different "levels" of practicing, from not practicing at all, to wearing a full burka and quietly praying in a corner of the break room when it was time. "Your" Muslims might be some of the more devout ones? We were all very tolerant and supportive of each other. To answer the original question, how do I feel about the issue? I feel that, since the company does put a lot a money into their good intentions, and you have a band and decent food in a decent venue, just accept their generosity....because a LOT of companies don't do anything like that anymore because of budgeting....and just go out afterwards to celebrate the way you want.
