BenevolentM -> RE: What do the atheists get right? (4/29/2014 4:10:56 PM)

I agree it is evident that atheists do not "exercise a lot of brain cells" and there is according to atheism "far more important things not to believe in" like the belief that it is important to keep your pants zipped.

I can't help thinking that religionists assume that we non-believers exercise a lot of brain cells in our non-belief. I don't think most of us do. We just think, 'Well, this is nonsense', and move on to other stuff. There are far more important things not to believe in, frankly.

Thats a blatant lie I know you have many pictures of elves in your head hence you started to define them. You just dont believe in people with pointy ears. Plus I never said people use a lot of braincells. Most use only 10% of their brain.

You first have to define the word god before you can say I dont believe in god.

I don't think you do, Mr B. I don't believe in fairies, elves or pixies, but I've never really bothered to define any of them.

Funnily enough I don't believe in pixies or god

What atheists get right is that humans need to sort out the shit that is going on and not leave it to some unknown, unproven mystical being that has done fuck all for us, practically speaking, except cause enormous suffering over the centuries

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: What do the atheists get right? (4/29/2014 4:24:34 PM)

Way to attack a group of people you clearly know nothing about!
Last time I did that I got my post yanked.

To the contrary, I believe we atheists have a lot more brain power available to us as we are not constantly making excuses for our imaginary sky daddy.
A timely example: I saw someone on the news this evening who survived one of the tornados yesterday thanking god that she was alive. No love for the NWS
who provided her a warning which gave her enough time to seek shelter. Nor did she acknowledge the people who built the "safe room" in her house where she hid.

And just exactly why did god send that tornado in the 1st place? If he did not send it then why did he not stop it?

It's that sort of mental gymnastics that we atheists do not have to worry about. Gives us more time to win Nobel's...

MrBukani -> RE: What do the atheists get right? (4/29/2014 4:30:49 PM)

I never said my god was imaginary, my god is nature and you are part of nature as everything is. I respect nature as most people do or should do.

No, I don't have lots of pictures of elves in my head, Mr B. Lots of pictures of comely women with pert buttocks, but few or no pictures of elves.

Seriously, I think there's a kind of 'flipside' assumption amongst religionists, about atheists. They assume that because they believe in their God so strongly, we atheists must, equally strongly, not believe in their God. But we don't. Or most of us don't, anyway. We simply don't think it makes sense, so we move on.

Religionists frequently don't seem to get the real truth: that we don't want to argue with them - we just don't care about them. There just isn't anything there that seems worth fighting.

put the spliff down, have a good sleep then read that post again and get back to us

MrBukani -> RE: What do the atheists get right? (4/29/2014 5:04:01 PM)

No spliff here, whats so alien about seeing nature as a supreme being. I see it little different from sunworship wich is natural as well.
You just dont like it I worship a god that does exist.
Boohoo.[:(]

I assume little about individual perceptions. I think people who speak in terms of us are often more scary and dangerous in assuming they can speak for a group without knowing who you speak for.

I think it's just a bit difficult to see everything in nature as worthy of worship as a supreme being, Mr B. I mean, the magnificent things like the stars, the mountains, flowers, the oceans and stuff - fine. But cowpats, viruses, snot, penile warts and diarrhoea . . . those things are also part of nature, and I, for one, find it difficult to see them as part of a higher entity of any kind, if you get my drift.

I understand but if the cow cant shit you have a sick cow. Thats even worse. There is no good without bad, both have a purpose. You have to piss shite outta your arse first before you can get better. All part of the cycle of life. I praise nature as a cycle not a speck of shit.

Have you thought of writing a Nature Worshipper's Bible, Mr B? That would work well as the first line of a Genesis equivalent. [:)]

MrBukani -> RE: What do the atheists get right? (4/29/2014 5:44:37 PM)

And out of the cowpat sprang a medicinal flower of immense beauty.
Oh Lord thanks for the patties.

MrBukani -> RE: What do the atheists get right? (4/29/2014 5:51:26 PM)

In this case it should be Lady as it is a cow but thats just semantics

Now Peon what I am bothered with is that you say "Religionists frequently don't seem to get the real truth: that we don't want to argue with them - we just don't care about them. There just isn't anything there that seems worth fighting. "
Dont argue then, simple.
We just dont care about them?
So Peon is your grandfather religious? Your sister or a loved one?
It just sounds cold, maybe you dont have respect for religion?

It did not inhibit Albert Einstein.
