Over and above all the stupid shit you've ever said about firearms on this forum, calling Kirata a dumbass is by far the stupidest. [sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif]

Where's the "like" feature when you need it?

Don't be silly... if a child were to pick up the gun and could not fire it a death or injury would be avoided. Please don't make me start posting all the statistics on accidental deaths and injuries to children from guns improperly secured

Well it's certainly true that if it couldn't be fired no injury would result. But statistically, it's no more of a problem than "improperly secured" pediatricians. And when it comes to a self-defense weapon, anything that adds complexity to the firing sequence is just something else that can go wrong at the wrong time. The fantasy of "safe" weapons is a utopian dream. Educating children about guns, and gun owners about safe storage, seems a much more practical and readily available approach.

And the very mention of gun safes will result in the gun nuts whining about that being too big a burden.

Speaking as someone you have repeatedly labeled as a "gun nut" you don't know what you are
talking about.

Liar.

I am not endorsing this particular technology as the answer... But neither am I discarding it out of hand. This is not a finished product nor is it the only single user technology being developed. But it will come and it will eventually be just as dependable as the weapons you own today. The question I have been asking all along is when this technology is perfected...dependable ...and affordable... Would you or others support a law mandating this be included on all new weapons?

I am trying to gauge the willingness of gun users to compromise to save lives. I would think responsible gun owners, especially with young children, would be all for this type of technology to safeguard their children.

1 in one million means 81 will die which is crap since 40 died in a 6 month period and more have died since. Maybe you shouldn't post figures pulled out of some liars letter to the editor.

I'd say that 40 in a six month period looks on track to be 80 a year. Maybe you shouldn't pretend to be a mathematician.

The claim wasn't 1 in 1 million per year, liar. The claim was that a child has a 1 in million chance of being killed by a gun accident. That means in his entire childhood. So 81 million kids divided by 18 years equals an annual rate of 4.5 per year. Learn to do math dumbass.

Over the years there have been many additions and improvements and added complexity to weapons and that has never stopped anyone from embracing new technology has it?

Is that a rhetorical question? What new handgun technology has been adopted that has the potential to make the gun potentially less operable or less reliable in time of need?

automatic feed, single action for revolvers, centerfire cartridges compared to rimfire. Pretty much every technology since the cased cartridge has added another possible point of failure.

That number is far too low...we have already surpassed that figure in Missouri alone in the last year...at least in deaths and serious injury.

Of course it is much higher. Kirata pulled the 1 in a million claim out of a letter to the editor of a newspaper with no sourcing.

You said mentioning them, not requiring them, big difference.

Apples and oranges.

He posted for one year you argued for the number over a period of years, any one knows that the total for five years will be more than the total for one year, only a moron would think that this changes the one year total.

No. He posted a letter to the editor that claimed the chances of a child being killed by a gun was one in a million. Not one in a million per year. That was not sloppy language it was flat out bullshit.

The probability changes every year. That was one of the article's points, how much it has dropped. And the "quote" you posted isn't the quote. The actual quote is...

Today, the odds are more than a million to one against a child in the U.S. dying in a firearm accident.

Whatever, Mr. Argue Over Trivial Shit. In the early 90's when I bought the freakin Glock, even premium ammo was closer to .25 in boxes of 20 or 50.

Pistol ammo comes 25 or 50 in a box.
Rifle ammo comes 20 in a box.

I hate to break this to ya but premium ammo actually does come in boxes of 20. Federal Premium, Winchester Super X and Black Talons are a few.

I guess that makes me paranoid and Ramboesque.

Not necessarily...but needing to have a gun ready at a moments notice 24/7/365 is.

As far as I'm concerned, if someone is proficient with their handgun, not having it ready at a moments notice 24/7 is illogical.
