ORIGINAL: Moderator3 When has it been okay to try to get around the word filter to say something most regular members know, isn't allowed? I do believe that I will start shutting things down for those who don't seem to understand that less moderation doesn't mean a free-for-all or that adults won't be expected to understand without two or three warnings. If it continues, I will be in touch and it won't be to coddle members with warnings and consider your motivation speeches. I'm all for adults being free to express themselves and was very much for less moderation, hoping that choices would provide a way for members to enjoy the forums in a way that suited them personally, but it seems some will test the system. We can always go back to heavy handed moderation with bans. That could be your individual choice. You do have one a this point. I may not agree with the vast majority of what Cloudboy has to say, but this is just plain silly. Saying that racist words are banned, in a discussion about racist words seems kind of ridiculous. Using apostrophes in place of letters when writing out derogatory words is fairly common practice, it's not "getting around the filters". Is writing "The N word" getting around the filters? Everyone knows exactly what I mean if I were to say that, but omitting letters is ok, replacing them is somehow wrong and deserving of a reprimand? There's a big difference between using a derogatory term and directing it at someone/some group, and using it as part of a discussion on racism. One last thing, why is it that it's only racist words aimed at certain ethnic groups that are banned? The word redskin has been said repeatedly, Cloudboy has argued how horribly racist and insensitive it is, but it was only when he used a derogatory term for African Americans that a Moderator has stepped in? In another thread, lots of terms for Asians were bandied about, so what gives?
