This is a part of the overall effort to destroy American / traditional culture.

The only tradition there is regarding "culture" is that it is always changing. I suppose you would like to go back to the "traditions" where those pesky wimmins and negros were't allowed to vote?

Ah, the good old traditions!

Even for a straw man argument that's really sorry... [:D]

mnottertail -> RE: Another Outrage (6/27/2014 11:52:07 AM)

Its not a strawman, but you are a perfect score of Zero!!!!!

Wow. So, is this policy of strict non-assignment of gender at birth quite widespread your side of the pond, then? If so, how do you see it destroying American/traditional culture, exactly?

Again, a part of the overall effort. Words mean things...

And no, this particular aspect of said effort is not simply emanating from some fringe isolated individual

From your link:

"In August of 2013, California Governor Jerry Brown passed bill AB 1266, giving transgender students the right to not only end sex discrimination, but use bathrooms and join sports teams that correspond with their gender identity. "

I'm really not seeing how a few TG students using this or that bathroom or joining one or another sports team is a threat to the American tradition, Sanity. These are minor things: even taken together, it's hard for me to grasp how they're a threat to anything very much at all. Could you explain, more precisely, the nature of this threat? How will the damage be caused, exactly?

Sanity -> RE: Another Outrage (6/27/2014 12:12:53 PM)

The way it's been proposed, it seems that anyone can use any restroom or shower etc

Is that PC, or is that something else

Why not hold off assigning gender to newborns until they pick it themselves? What's the harm in that? Beyond the fact that it offends your rigid way of thinking?

"Innie" or "outie?" Not really a difficult thing to determine at birth, is it? Gender certainly can be changed at a later date, but at birth, it's pretty much going to be obvious (there are exceptions).

Really? To you it all comes down to 'what's on the surface of an individual'? That's a pretty shallow view you hold....

Actually, it isn't. The hormones inside usually match the plumbing. From what I've read, that's fairly deep inside a person.

quote:

So if a person is of black skin color, they can not do as well as that of someone with white skin color?

You're alluding to me as a racist because I think a newborn's gender is easily determined by the plumbing?!? That's a fucking stupid assertion, and quite the strawman.

quote:

That a tall person can not ride as well as a midget?
A fat person can not government as well as a slim person?

Strawmen.

quote:

The topic here, is of the outlook of the individual's view of their sex. That for some people, what's on the outside is not a true determination of what's on the inside. In this day and age, its ok for people to show what is on the inside to the out without the out-right fear of persecution by the law, religious nuts, or mental prisons. The DSV-4 removed the notion that being homosexual was a mental disorder back in 1994, but the process of change had taken place as early as the 2nd edition in 1974. The DSM-5 was just published last month.
From what I understand of it, that changing one's gender in a physical sense becomes harder and harder as one grows older. There are many examples of individuals whom started as one gender but turned to the other early on and have led good, healthy lives. The only people I find that cant handle this concept are the bigots in the nation.

An individual's view of their sex?!? I think we shouldn't leave that up to a newborn. Every newborn would likely be a "Waaa" if we let them tell us. This is about newborns. I'm fine with people changing their physical gender to match their mental gender identity. I'm fine with that being done when a person is mature enough to make that determination for him/herself, too (as opposed to forcing them to wait until they are "age of majority" provided they're legal guardians sign off on the surgery).

How do we determine what one's "gender identity" is? Is it simply what the person says it is? Is that fluid? Should it be fluid? While it's not a guarantee, sports performance relying on speed, strength and agility tend to favor males. Could a male athlete take a shortcut to success and claim a female "gender identity" so as to compete against females rather than males? Isn't that inherently unfair to the female athlete?

mnottertail -> RE: Another Outrage (6/27/2014 12:29:37 PM)

Actually, we are part way home, Lord Cornbury, once Governor of New York was a cross-dresser, as was the Director of our FBI, J.Edgar Hoover (staunch republican), State Rep. Richard Curtis, R-La Center, so in reality, we are continuing the tradition.

Chrissy Nakonski (republican (transgender))
Donna Milo (republican)

And there is the Log Cabin Republicans

Long history..........long. Certainly a republican tradition, I don't understand the fuss.

The male athlete would have to convince a psychologist the he actually had gender dysphoria which is not easy for kids who actually have it. And how many guys do you think would be willing to live their life as a girl just to run track against the girls?

The question is why assign gender to newborns at all? There is absolutely no reason to do so. If we raised all children gender neutral until they expressed their own gender preference that would do no harm to the vast bulk of kids who are born where the biology matches the brain. But for those kids where there is a mismatch not forcing the kid into the wrong gender would save a great deal of psychological harm.

That could be true if you were to take things to the nth degree. It's unlikely to be a practical problem for most, though, because there aren't many transgender people around. But this doesn't answer the question of how such things can be a threat to American culture and traditions. How and why a threat?

mnottertail -> RE: Another Outrage (6/27/2014 2:57:05 PM)

I remember going to the University of Heidelberg (for parties, not for school) and they had 'unisex bathrooms' and that was the 70's.

Yep. I've got to say: I don't give a flying one if females come into the male toilets. It happens in the pubs here every New Year's Eve: giant queues at the ladies' toilet because they don't have urinals. So the women eventually start to queue up for the cubicles in the gents' toilets. Neither women nor men care. And civilisation doesn't feel as though it's cracking at the seams as a result. You get up next morning and the trains are running as normal.

mnottertail -> RE: Another Outrage (6/27/2014 3:23:45 PM)

Here men get all drunk and same long que for ladies, and if the lady is drunk enough to go into the mens, they are waving her in and pissing all over themselves saying 'C'mon in....'

You walk into a womens bathroom here by mistake and they are screaming and rude and want to charge you with rape.

Different cultures, OI?

I'm told it can be done, though not with ease - but thank god I've never seen a woman wazz into a urinal. There are *limits*. 'T'aint ladylike.

Who are you to say that their gender identity won't change later?

I don't know. Maybe to help tell the baby apart in the Maternity Ward?

New Parent: "I thought our baby had an outie, Doc?!?"
DocKen: "What does it matter what the exterior anatomy? We can change that. You want us to turn that innie into an outie for you?"
New Parent: "No, I want MY son!"
DocKen: "This specimen can very easily be your son. We can even switch it with another specimen if you'd rather have one with a different color meat suit.
