Yes, the 20th Maine with a few unhappy 'volunteers' from another Maine regiment.............I'm not sure which one but what Chamberlain did was against all the rules of warfare as they were known at that time and he beat seven bells of crap out of the Alabama regiment opposing him.
Thank the gods that wars aren't fought like that any more. I toured the battlefield there many years ago and yes, it was very sad and very moving.

Personally, I'd like to ban personal fireworks and leave it to the organised displays.

Anything that explodes or flies up into the air is already banned here. That doesn't even slow it down, but then, we Americans are an independent bunch, without much use for interfering government authority.

This is, after all, the celebration of telling the Brits to take their rules, and go fuck themselves with them.

I really don't care when some idiot hurts themselves with one but periodically they'll hurt someone else and that does suck. Last year at one of the city parks a woman was across the park from a bunch of folks setting off fireworks and some moron fired a bottle rocket sideways and it blew her foot off.

You must mean a mortar, and a very large one

A bottle rocket can't hardly blow someones finger off

worst I ever saw was some singed hair.

turns out its not QUITE like the story DK told

http://abc7chicago.com/archive/9162643/

not a "bunch of folks setting off fireworks", nor some moron who shot a bottle rocket sideways, but a long standing yearly amateur event that went wrong...

seems the girl in question went to this park to watch fireworks for at least a few years running

Be fair, I doubt he knows the difference between a skyrocket, a bottle rocket, and a fireworks mortar with high grade fireworks.

Not that it's any of my business, being a Brit and all, but it does kind of seem as though you folks would be defeating the object somewhat to go through all that struggle to gain independence from us only then to blow yourselves up with whatever ordnance you can buy, make or otherwise cook up.

I'm just repeating what the press reported. They could have gotten it wrong. I wasn't there.

As I said you didn't know the difference, and just repeated the words of someone who didn't have a clue.

Some people prefer a nanny government to keep everyone tucked in and perfectly safe

No fun aloud and all that

Others prefer their freedom

In these parts, fire is the major concern.

Since there is no way for me to know what happened beyond what was reported that is what I repeated. If I had said it was something else and one of you right wing asses had then went digging to find a story that said bottle rocket you would all be howling liar then too.

You should have know that a bottle rocket can't blow someones foot off making the story wrong.
When you read a story that is too stupid to be true don't quote it, avoids both problems.
