ORIGINAL: Dvr22999874 Yes, the 20th Maine with a few unhappy 'volunteers' from another Maine regiment.............I'm not sure which one but what Chamberlain did was against all the rules of warfare as they were known at that time and he beat seven bells of crap out of the Alabama regiment opposing him. Thank the gods that wars aren't fought like that any more. I toured the battlefield there many years ago and yes, it was very sad and very moving. Did you happen to watch the "Gettysburg" movie that came out a couple years ago, and if so, I'm wondering whether what you're referring to above got portrayed accurately? or whether it was just touched upon? Btw, the fireworks show last night was spectacular and lasted longer than it had last year. (For a Special Friend) Yes, Gettysburg was uncommonly well researched. If he is talking about the part of the battle I think he is it was a pivotal moment in the battle. The charge in defense of Little Round Top. What would be the point of a Gettysburg movie if they didn't get the moment that won the battle right? I believe that is what I said. Although many feel that Gettysburg was won at Chancellorsville . Lee never had another subordinate like Jackson that is for sure but it is hard to understate the importance of holding Little Round Top that day or the audacity of a Union regiment trying a bayonet charge into Confederate forces. Capturing almost the entire Alabama 15th (? IIRC) collapsed that flank of the assault on the hill and effectively ended the attack. True, however if Jackson had been there the battle would have been much different and may not even have been fought. Also some experts believe that Lee had a heart attack a day or two before the battle which would have, if true, have affected things. Interesting as this is we should move back to things more directly related to the op. With that in mind (and for no other reason) I will hereby cease to discuss the War of Northern Aggression.
