SirKenin -> RE: Everyone should be like me! (7/11/2006 8:15:57 AM)

It is most amusing seeing how many people flamed the OP for being a drama whore or whatever but then they take the bait and respond with their own drama.  I guess there really is a lot of truth in that childhood line "takes one to know one".  [8|]

Shrugs, puppets on a string dude. Did you see what happened when I just ignored them? We all have control here. Don't bitch if you choose not to use it.

I shut down the drama crowd with a few mouse clicks. Any of you can do that-why don't you? You do NOT have to tolerate being upset by people who behave like asses.

But they aren't.

Why do we get out underwear in such a knot when people state prefferences?  Is it how they do it, or that they dare to?

I have watched this thread unfold and have resisted posting, thinking at first it was a hmm attempt at self promotion---however, as I watched the postings occur, I was amazed that just what Caretakr stated, continued to take place---(now Caretkr you aren't blameless here, there are a few cannon balls lobbed from your camp too)---but I sat back and really thought about what he said--

Is it the fact that verbalized what ALL human beings feel?
Is it the way he verbalized it?
Or is it that it hit a very raw nerve in all of us?

For humanity lives in its own unique bubbles---be they individual perceptions, organizational perceptions or community perceptions--we see life through that bubble and if the color we see is blue and the neighbor sees pink---we are at once at odds.

Caretakr never said, " I am better", he said <from his view of the world>, everyone should be like he is--but they aren't so when they aren't why do they get attacked? Because WE as individuals must have the world as we see it in our bubble.

and that is all he said--and look what happened...

I admit freely that I did some prodding-it was part of making my point. Then I withdrew the attention, and I stopped it cold.

It really is like playing with puppets.

Question for the reader-do you enjoy being a puppet?

MHOO314 -> RE: Everyone should be like me! (7/11/2006 8:55:28 AM)

Personally, we are all puppets to someone, something, somewhere---we all dance to some tune for that is the basis of human existence after all, isn't it?

darkinshadows -> RE: Everyone should be like me! (7/11/2006 8:55:38 AM)

Peace and Rapture.

But we can choose who we reply to, and who we dance for.

And those who insist on bringing chaos into life-are not worthy dance partners. If someone comes in to contribute something postive, I will gladly dance with them. If it's only to be negative,or demeaning-are they really worth looking at?

I refuse to feed that.

LeatherBentOne -> RE: Everyone should be like me! (7/11/2006 9:14:14 AM)

Caretakr,

So glad you asked.

Some people think that just because they have their own views and opinions it is always a necessity to voice them, no matter if they lack tact, manners or diplomacy in doing so.  Words are spewed regardless of considering another's feelings in this manner.  It is possible to agree to disagree in a civilized way, to state one's views and ideas as to minimize drama, if drama is not one's nature to receive in return for their opposing voice other than just to make it known.  Unfortunately, some of us can be selfish and expect a payback in the form of drama and retaliation.  Remember, negative attention is better than no attention at all.

Some people as you so elequently stated "get their underwear into such a knot" because they are control freaks, plain and simple.  How dare anyone disagree with them, much less dare to state another opinion or view?  So, they'll fight someone tooth and nail attempting to wear them out until they wear them down because after all, their way is the right way no matter what.  These people don't give a hoot about what other people think or feel because it's all about me, myself and I.  All they care about is puffing up their chests because people agree with them and when people don't agree, it deflates their already over-sized ego and the wad in their underwear grows in direct proportion to the amount, context and tone of anyone they can't control.

Then there are those who personalize everything as if they were the center of the universe and everything that they perceive, both good and bad, revolves around the core of their existence.  Now, that's just a tad self-centered I think.  My sub has problems with her self-esteem, which she is actively working on to improve with my support and making great progress.  However once in a while, she becomes offended by what others say especially when she perceives "it's all about her" and she needs to pick her underwear out of her behind.  My response is to remind her that she isn't the center of everyone else's universe and that she cannot control anyone's thoughts, opinions or actions except the one's that she owns.  However, she can control how she reacts to them.

On that note, I've hesitated many times to post my views due to the responses I see from others when they have the audacity and agree to disagree about something they wish to share here.  I'm not one for verbal gymnastics, mincing words or trying to prove that my way is the "be all to end all."  I'd prefer to have an intelligent conversation in a forum where people respect other's points of views as they wish theirs to be respected, and to seek negative attention elsewhere if they are looking for a means to their end and leave the drama to The Days of Our Lives where it rightfully belongs until we decide to change the channel ~ not by force but consentually.

Exactly.

And I respect the respectful with civilized discourse.

The rest can find a place in my kill file-I have no patience to be blowing up ballons for them.

(and if I have stopped responding to you in this thread, take the hint.)

Ditto on that one, however your delicious sense of sarcasm doesn't count.  [sm=banana.gif]

So true!! People sometimes forget that they CHOOSE how to react to comments and such, not that someone made or caused them respond that way!!!
It's like saying, "He made me mad." ... no, you chose to be mad!

I think there are two reasons depending on what sort of preference someone is stating.

If it's a personal preference based on physical appearance, such can be seen as shallow. The problem with someone getting upset about it is that physical attraction is nothing more than 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' There really is no reason to get upset. However, if the preference is stated in such a way as to discount any other preference, that belittles everyone who doesn't fall into that preferential category and it's an excellent start to a flame war.

If, however, the preference is regarding a kink and again, stated in a way that discounts any other 'way,' that falls into the YKINOK category ... another excellent way to start a flame war.

I think 'how' something is stated is important, but somewhat less important than the motivation in stating it. Mistakes in 'how' something is said can be pointed out, the writer given a chance to correct a point of view if what they have said is not received well because of the way they said it. That's more a matter of being misunderstand through the writers failure to clarify their position.

Motivation though, the thought behind the statement, is seldom a mistake and if it's a statement with which one does not agree .. their choices in dealing with such are limited.

I've found that a post or two expressing my opinions are generally as much time as I'm willing to spend, preferring to move on to threads or conversations which are more productive or educational to my particular taste.

The wars usually result from people puffing up, and trying to defend thier one true ways. For about being upset over someone elses true ways......................

Makes perfect sense to me![8|]
