CreativeDominant -> RE: "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie thoughts (7/25/2014 10:44:05 AM)

I admit it...I read the book...or more accurately, tried reading the book. Master Grey: Flawed (all dominants are...we're human), super-rich (maybe some dominants are), super handsome (o.k., SOME of us are...Grins), gives up on all his own rules for any relationship he will involve himself in to pursue this non-submissive female (yes, male dominants do that allllll the time), trained from a young age by a Mistress (really?), abused (really?) and , of course, the son of a whore (really? Yes...really). Anastasia: During her first meeting with Christian, asks him if he's gay (I know that makes me want to further pursue a woman), attractive (of course), with a nice body (of course), not a particularly submissive demeanor nor any sign of responding to his dominant vibe (yep, that always tells dominants that this is the woman they should go for), accepts His largesse while endlessly discussing the D/s contract but never signing it (hmmmm) and never submitting (though the author seems to think playing with his toys is submission) I think the story in the link DS provided says it best...the book and the movie may spark some interest but there will need to be a lot of clarification done. Here is another link: http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/2012/05/25/490132/fifty-shades-of-whatever-the-missed-opportunities-of-fifty-shades-of-grey I agree with the author of the link when at the end, she notes that the 50 Shades author missed an opportunity to explore the nature of gender roles and sexual politics. The writer also made me smile when she described 50 Shades as the literary equivalent of a magazine article telling wives to greet their hubbies wrapped in Satan Wrap.
